The anau here at Tū Anga‘anga Productions are devastated to hear of the passing of Tauraki Rongo — Cook Islands Radio host for PMN Cook Islands, a devoted father and grandfather, and a deeply respected colleague and friend.

Tauraki was one of our most trusted leaders, not only here in Aotearoa but also back home in the Cook Islands. His connection to Tū Anga‘anga began through his niece and co-founder, Poe Tiare Tararo, but it grew far beyond that during our production of Raru e Maruakaītā (2024), where Tauraki lent his powerful voice to the role of Pastor Ngā.

When we were searching for a voice actor for Pastor Ngā, we found ourselves at a loss until Poe Tiare remembered the unmistakable, god-like voice of her uncle. Strong, unwavering, and instantly recognisable within our community, Tauraki’s voice carried authority, warmth, and truth. With a simple message and a call from his niece, he agreed to come on board and breathe life into the character.

In 2022, the first iteration of Raru e Maruakaītā he once again welcome his nieces call and happily welcomed her onto the Cook Islands talkshow segment on PMN Cook Islands giving her the space to talk about her culture, when it came to culture he would never say "no". He was the champion of our arts and for our people both near and far and this world has developed a void in the shape of the man that was Tauraki Rongo that may never be filled again.

His voice will forever be immortalized in this work. We will listen with pride, knowing that this warrior for Cook Islands people and culture is woven into the foundation of Cook Islands theatre that we at Tū Anga‘anga are committed to building.

Aere atu e Tauraki.
Ko Iehova tō tātou māroiroi e tō tātou ākapuanga, vaitata roa ia kia kore tātou e rokoia e te tīmatanga. ❤️🙏❤️

✨Meet our voice actors✨

Although the show is a two hander it could not come to life without the voices behind the scene. Our life performers will be acting alongside voice recordings of our people from various island of the Cook Islands. We thought that if we were to have voices to represent us, it should be our own people and so performers Roy and Poe Tiare both sit out to reach out to their families so come on board and bring their voices to the stage, figuratively.

⚡️Cast order of appearance:

•MUNOKOA IRO, voicing Mama Vaē (Rarotonga, Aitutaki, Manihiki, Mangaia and Palmerston)

•TAURAKI RONGO, voicing Pastor Nga (Rarotonga, Mauke, Atiu, Mitiaro, Manihiki and Rakahanga)

•GERMANCY IRO, voicing Aunty Martha (Rarotonga, Phenryn, Mangaia, Aitu, Aitutaki, Manihiki and Palmerston)

• DAYLE TUAURI, voicing Aunty Ta (Rarotonga, Phenryn, Mangaia Manihiki, Aitutaki and Palmerston)

•DAVID ATAI, voicing Uncle TJ (Aitutaki)

•TAINUI TUKIWAHO, voicing Rangi (Te Arawa, Tuhoe, Whakatōhea, Ngāti Tūwharetoa)

If you would like to come along and listen to your family members voices then book a ticket using the link in our bio as soon as possible!

We’d like to take the time to thank creative New Zealand for supporting us financially so we can bring this kaupapa to Cook Islands community.

⚒️BTS of Raru e Maruakaītā⚒️Last week we had the absolute honour and privilege of having members of Poe Tiare Tararo & Roy Iros family in the studio to record our additional voices for the show in studios. Although on stage this show is performed as a two hander but, we do have a plethora of voices that are scattered across the show that will reveal themselves as animations and audio throughout the show! It was incredibly important to director Tainui Tukiwaho to showcase our people. If the show is made for our Cook Islands community so, if there are existing characters in the show that are supposed to be from home, then we need to record people from home and that’s exactly what we did. Roy and Poe Tiare reached out to their family members and our sound engineer David Atai and we put their voices in the show! We are still merely breaking the surface of what this show has to offer! So, grab your ticket and bring your anau, taeake, kiore nigao, puaka e te mea e te mea ti runga i te ‘are o Te Pou🤎We would once again like to give our deepest thanks and aroa to the families of Poe Tiare Tararo and Roy Iro for taking the time out of your busy schedules to record your beautiful voices so we can bring the voices of our home into this ‘are. Meitaki nui also to our generous funders as this would not have been possible without your support and belief in this kaupapa🤎Turou oro mai, this is Raru e Maruakaītā!!Raru e Maruakaītā show details👇» FRIDAY 1ST NOVEMBER, 7:30pm» SATURDAY 2ND NOVEMBER, 2pm & 7:30pm🎟️TICKETS $18 - $25 Book your tickets now by clicking the link in our bio⛓️‍💥 development
