One of the questions I get asked most often is, 'Where do you get your ideas?' To be honest, I don't really have a clear answer. They just... happen. Most of the time, ideas strike when I'm spacing out, repeating mindless tasks, or driving alone on a long stretch of road. They appear in moments that seem utterly meaningless.
But were those moments truly meaningless? Looking back, they were actually quite significant to me.
One representative idea born this way is a small cup that sits atop a kettle, with a lid on top of that. While absentmindedly, drinking tea and fiddling with the kettle lid-lifting it, putting it back, spinning it-the underside of the lid suddenly looked like a cup to me.
That was the birth of this piece. I'm especially fond of it because I remember winning an award in a design competition with this idea. So, I think I'll go ahead and 'space out' with all my might today, too.
