New painting!

This painting brings together my Mother's treasured willow tea pot, and my own treasured dog vase. If you've followed me for a while, you'll have seen this vase a few times. What you can't see from the photos is the hint of bones 🦴 scratched into the paint. Apparently my bones aren't as strong as I'd like them to be 🦴

Acrylic, coloured pencil and oil pastel on board.
As yet unnamed... Suggestions?

(Ps wee sunset studio pic of the assistants at the end to make you smile. They make me smile at any rate 😃)

Welcome to my new followers!
I'm Katie and I’m a painter based in Alexandra, Central Otago, New Zealand.

I am a PhD scientist, turned painter and in both worlds ENERGY is the key. I love to paint the energy of the landscapes and the seasons; the energy of our stories.

Much of my inspiration comes from the Otago region—its vistas, its histories, its ghosts. My ancestry, tied to the Otago gold rush through both Chinese and Scottish roots, lies beneath many of my paintings.

My landscapes are about colour and texture; about the geology and the flora. My interiors might feature a quiet cottage or a quirky object or animal. I paint surrounded by my animals - Nacho and Scout (the dogs) and Neo (the cat).

For me, painting is a way to connect—with my true self firstly, and then with place, with memory, with emotion and with people.

One thing I've been loving lately is spending time outside with my paints. Whilst the season permits, I grab a cushion and often a couple of dogs plus some water colours and pastels.

This painting"Autumn at Carrick" is one result of my plein air studies. The colours are more muted, showing the late -Autumnal state of the folliage (though it's still mid Autumn; Jack Frost has visited us early this year!). I'm planning to.spend much more time looking at this view for an ongoing project with
📷🎨! Details to come in due course

I have loved firstly making this concertina sketch book with my own paintings as covers and a mixture of paper types inside, and then filling the sketch book. There have been a bunch of different materials, locations, seasons and inspirations in this short book.

Thank you for the main inspiration! This has given me a great starting place for future plein air work and I'm eager for more!

After a frosty start this morning (-3 when I got up!), the sun came out and it was landscape tweaking day in the studio ( no help provided by the studio assistants)

Autumn is coming to an end in April this year. It makes that autumn colour even more precious
