SouthCity Soundz Chorus We are a group of women who sing barbershop music; 4 part harmony without musical accompaniment. We rehearse on Mondays at Reremoana School, Wattle Downs.

Our group is under the umbrella of Sweet Adelines, an international organisation based in the US.

Celebrating 25 Years of Harmony!

Recently, we had the privilege of celebrating Sheryl Willis and her remarkable 25 years of service with SouthCity Soundz Chorus.

For a quarter of a century, Sheryl has been a dedicated and valued member of our chorus, bringing warmth, joy, enthusiasm, and a deep love for the art of barbershop singing. She generously gives of her time to encourage and support others, helping new members learn, grow, and find their place within our chorus family.

It was so special to see Sheryl honoured with her 25-year badge and certificate on Monday evening. Her commitment, leadership, and friendship have helped shape SouthCity Soundz into the chorus it is today.

Thank you, Sheryl, for 25 years of harmony, service, and inspiration. We are so grateful for all you bring to our chorus. ❤️🎶

🎶 Bel Canto Workshop with Rowena Harper 🎶

Tonight our chorus had the privilege of learning from Rowena Harper, exploring the beauty and technique of bel canto singing—an Italian style meaning “beautiful singing.”

We focused on four key techniques to strengthen and unify our sound:

✨ Lifted Ribcage – creating space for full, supported breath
✨ Engaged Core – gently drawing in the belly button for control
✨ Open Vowel Space – shaping the mouth for richer tone
✨ Barbershop Smile – lifting the cheeks (or “moustache”) to brighten resonance

Together, these techniques help us sing with greater freedom, warmth, and clarity—bringing out the very best in our barbershop sound.

What a fantastic night of learning and growing together! 🎤
