🌿🐞🦋
Yesterday whaanau chose and coloured their favourite pollinator designs.

Tamariki also drew their own flowers and trees bringing art to life with us.

Thanks to AUDO and our tamariki!

These beautiful pollinators were imagined by tamariki from one of our community Mahinga Kai events 🌿🐞🦋

The future goal is that one day these beautiful designs will be used as inspiration for a mural on the wall at the Puhinui Reserve at Papatoetoe Glass.

Thank you to Auckland Urban Development Office and our tamariki contributors!

Ngā Manu - Wesley Community Centre

A year ago, Grace and I were painting the bike hub next to the Wesley Community Centre when the Managers came over, full of excitement, and asked if we’d paint something for the centre itself. We were thrilled at the idea - and recently we got the chance to start.

Here it is! 💚

Our new mural, Ngā Manu, celebrates the vibrant life of Aotearoa with native birds, plants, and a cheeky timohina (magpie) for the Timohina Room. It’s been such a privilege to add colour and warmth to a space that serves so many people in the community.

The feedback has been amazing - people love it and have even asked if we can continue painting around the room! We’ve built a really special connection with the team and the space, and it feels wonderful to leave a piece of our heart there.

Huge thanks to everyone who supported this project, especially Alfonso and Rudy - and to my beautiful daughter Grace for her creativity and talent. You’re incredible, my darling, and I love seeing you grow. 💕

Absolutely incredible day and the sun came out to bless us. You can really see the area taking shape and it's exciting to see the transformation taking place 🌿🌱🏞️💧

Thanks for having us be a part of this celebration 🎉😎🙏

🌊 Rising Waters Music Workshop 🎶

Tonight I attended the Rising Waters Music Workshop on behalf of SPiCE, joining forces with Holding Space, GHUB, and other local groups.

Together, we asked a vital question:

“What would support you, your whānau, and our community to thrive after local flooding?”

The music, kai, and the whanaungatanga made it such a beautiful gathering - full of aroha, creativity and resilience.

Ngā mihi to Ema for leading an amazing workshop, everyone who shared their voices and ideas, and to our Local Board for co-funding this kaupapa.

The Pohū Arts Tamariki Art Club - Our Biggest Session Yet!

This week’s Ika Rocks session at Manurewa Library was a huge success, with over 50 tamariki and whānau joining us throughout the afternoon! It was our highest turnout yet, with a steady flow of creative energy from start to finish. Many tamariki even stayed to help us clean up at the end - ka rawe!

We are incredibly proud of how this programme has evolved.

We provide quality Māori-based art activities each week, including:
- One main art activity
- A collaborative group artwork
- Custom-made colouring-in activity pages
- And healthy snacks for our hungry tamariki

No one misses out.

The verdict from the kids?

“I don’t wanna go!” 💚

Next week is our final session for the term, and we’re currently seeking support to help us continue this kaupapa.

We'd love to keep going and grow this programme and bring creative drop-in sessions to even more libraries and communities across Tāmaki Makaurau.

Ngā mihi nui to Manurewa Library, and our Local Board, plus all the parents who make time to let their tamariki have a go - your support makes this possible!
