NBO’s Wednesday’s Video is a solstice celebration by absurdist basket-maker Lewis Prosser at Oriel Davies Gallery, United Kingdom

We marked the solstice with a weird and experimental mix of sound, improvised movement, and basketry, inspired by the tradition of Mumming, from the mind of absurdist basket-maker Lewis Prosser.
We were so pleased to be a part of this brilliant improvised performance.
Thanks so much to Lewis and the performers for bringing the wonderful costumes to life, and to David Grubb and Darren Eedens for the stunning live music, moving between traditional tunes and improvised responses to the movement. Thank you to everyone at Hafan Yr Afon for being such great and supportive hosts. And last but not least, thank you to all of you for coming out and celebrating the solstice with us.
It was a joy to take the performance out onto the streets of Newtown and we hope you all enjoyed it!
We look forward to welcoming Lewis back to Newtown again soon.

It was lovely to take part in the Silent Skies - community workshops and final exhibition. I felt right at home at the Mangere East Community Center and Library.

My first peg loom weave was made with wool fleece and bicycle tyre innertube. The colours remind me of the surrounding landscape of our old home in Ngā Hau Māngere. Green fields and volcanic rock walls.

Thank you Liz, the Wool Revaluation participants and sponsors for this opportunity.

As a student, facilitator and parent I love learning new skills and having the opportunity to pass them on.

The second piece is a continuation work for others to add to. A large peg loom woven with wool, upcycled materials and leaves.

(With your food basket and my food basket, the people will thrive)

Thank you to Sharon for your patience teaching me to spin. It was on my bucket list to learn this skill from my heritage.

Spring is here!

Here's a nod to our Irish Heritage with a colorful Brigid's Cross. Made at the beginning of spring it's placed above your entry door to ward off bad luck and fire. A good sweep is done also for getting rid of bad luck and making room for good ☘️

I found this old cyanotype print while spring cleaning my studio. The blue print flowers are beautiful.

There are some kids craft sessions coming up in Term 4.

More details to come ✨️

Some of the creations from yesterday's Summer Festival at the Gribblehirst Hub. Thank you for having me.

The Free activities were supported by the Albert-Eden Local Board.

My personal favorite was Summers bracelet for her soft toy.

Materials such as used bicyle inner tube was gifted by Tu Meke Cycle Space.

My final piece for this years BDCA exhibition - TOI WHAKATIPU
The kākahu (cloak) is made out of used bicycle tyre innertube donated by Tumeke Cycle Space at the Gribblehirst Hub.

The inner tube is prepared, cut and threaded taking many hours to make. The making of kākahu is something that is very labour intensive and time consuming. It can usefully be described as ‘lap’ work - easily transportable and therefore a symbolic container for remembering the places, times and people where the work was constructed. Not just an aesthetic visual and material object, it has memories woven into it, a celebratory connection of the past, present and future, which further consolidates the work as belonging to, and made from, for whānau.

If you wish to see my other pieces and fellow tauiras work the exhibition is open this weekend at Unitec Building 108.

A wonderful way to spend Matariki and learn about Ngaa Ana Wai. Korero, Hikoi, Kai and Toi with beautiful supportive wahine. Many thanks to SPiCE Paula, Angela for organizing the event and Jo Diamond and Lisa Natures Fold for sharing their korero taonga.

Our guests were very creative using earth pigments and natural dye washes. It was so special to see what they had heard during the korero and hikoi reflected in their toi (art).

Our story

My daughter Sarah and I started a little stall to sell some tea towels and crafts for a fundraiser. The stall became a great way to connect with our local community and awesome life experience for Sarah.

We like to sell reusable items and crafts with upcycled materials or organic cotton. Looking after Papatuanuku and our children's future.

Ngaa mihi
