Luminata Voices

Luminata Voices Auckland's high-calibre women's chamber choir. Visit our website: http://www.luminatavoices.org Our ensemble is project-based.

Luminata Voices Women's Chamber Choir is a new high-calibre women's choir based in Auckland. Through the avenue of beautiful choral music, we want to create an opportunity for the light of women to shine bright, and to share our talents with the world. Winners of a Gold Award at the World Choir Games 2024 Champions Competition in the Women’s Chamber Choir category. We aim to perform women’s choral

repertoire to a high standard, to commission new works for women’s choir, to make recordings of women’s choir repertoire, to become one of New Zealand’s leading women’s choirs, and, eventually, to tour overseas. With a project lasting around 10 or so weeks, singers can choose which projects they are involved in. We believe it is important to create this flexible environment for women, so they know that they can be part of excellence and also be everything else they need and want to be. The singers from Luminata Voices are available to perform for private and corporate events, in a wide range of genres and we are flexible in size configuration. We are grateful to our funders, sponsors, supporters and everyone who has helped us so far. Please contact us if you are interested to sponsor or partner with Luminata Voices. We are an incorporated society with a charitable purpose. Auditions for new singers will take place prior to the start of each project - keep an eye on our page for details.

Manuia le Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa! Happy Samoa Language Week! 🌺

This year's theme, “‘E afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o le nu‘u” — “From the high mountains are the blessings of the village” speaks to the strength, wisdom and support that uplift our communities.

For us in Luminata Voices, this message feels especially meaningful as we work hard in preparation for Songs of Pasifika on 5 July 2026. We are grateful for the guidance, culture and connections that continue to inspire us on this musical and cultural journey.

We look forward to sharing what we have been learning and celebrating with you all soon! 🎶✨

Composer spotlight - Songs of Pasifika 🌺

We can not wait to sing Elisha Fa’i-So’oialo’s stunning composition Tagaloa for you on the 5th of July!

Elisha leads a fulfilling career as a distinguished Samoan mezzo-soprano, educator, composer and conductor. Residing in Rotorua, Elisha serves as a pivotal contributor to New Zealand’s performing arts, specifically through her advocacy for the inclusion and elevation of Pasifika musical narratives within the classical canon.

About Tagaloa:
Tagaloa explains the story of Samoan ancestors who leave Hawaiki Nui and travel long distances across rough seas in search for a new land and new beginnings. As they travel, they call out to Tagaloa and ask for his guidance and protection through their venture.

Composer spotlight - Songs of Pasifika 🌺

We are honoured to be performing Poulima Salima’s beautiful work Le Tupulaga o Aotearoa (“The Youth of Aotearoa”) on Sunday 5 July.

Poulima Salima is a Samoan composer from Auckland, with ancestral roots in Safotu, Faletagaloa Safune (Savai’i), and Faleasi’u (Upolu), Samoa. He holds a Bachelor of Music with Honours in Composition from the University of Auckland (2005) and has had an extensive and diverse career over the past 20 years. Through interdisciplinary projects and musical storytelling, Poulima champions Pacific voices on the global stage.

Poulima is saying about the piece: "Le Tupulaga o Aotearoa was born from the peacefulness and vastness of the Pacific Ocean. In this composition, I’ve drawn inspiration from ancient practices, where simple yet powerful melodies served as a means of deep reflection and everyday motivation. The rhythms in the song mirror the ebb and flow of the ocean’s waves, capturing its natural undulations.
This piece is a call to the youth of Aotearoa, urging them to seek God, stand firm in their faith, and unite under His guidance—as a school, a community, and a nation.
It is my hope that this song serves as a source of inspiration to all. "

We look forward to sharing this inspiring work with you. 🌊✨

More than a traditional recital, this project sees Luminata Voices step off the risers and into the rhythm. Featuring dynamic movement and evocative arrangements by renowned composers like Steven Rapana and Poulima Salima, the programme traverses the emotional spectrum from the playful energy of Minoi Minoi to the soul-stirring farewell of Tofa Mai Feleni.
