What a sight this morning! 🎈🌺

We were lucky enough to host a giant poppy hot air balloon in the Ashburton RSA car park as part of the lead-up to the Fire & Ice Hot Air Balloon Glow & Laser Festival in Methven this weekend.

The striking balloon is one of 14 that have travelled from around New Zealand to take part in this magical community event.

If you missed it this morning, you'll have another chance to see the giant poppy and plenty more spectacular balloons at the Methven A&P Showgrounds on Barkers Road this Saturday, 20 June, from 3pm–8pm.

Good evening, the Balloon Crew will be at the Ashburton RSA tomorrow morning at around 7:15. However the weather is looking a bit unfavourable at this stage for flight. They will assess the situation in the morning. Fingers crossed 🤞

Hot air balloon set to glow

A hot air balloon, featuring a giant poppy, will be inflated in the Ashburton RSA car park, Cox St, on Monday.

The giant balloon will be onsite from 7.15am.

Anyone can head along to have a close up look. Gold coin donations for the RSA would be appreciated.

The balloon is in the district for the Fire & Ice Hot Air Balloon Glow and Laser Festival in Methven, next weekend.

Fourteen balloonists will be in Methven from all over New Zealand for the magical celebration, Kiwi musician Brad Staley will perform, as will characters of Empress Stilt Dance.

Michaela and Graeme Church, owners of Adventure Balloons NZ, say the event will be a spectacular show, combining hot air balloons, lasers and music.

There’s even a kid’s zone and food court with a variety of tasty foods and deserts.

It is on at the Methven A&P Showgrounds, Barkers Rd on June 20 from 3pm — 8pm. Tickets cost $25 adult, $10 children. Family booking discounts available. Book via www.
