Brand new artwork called:
Brittlestar Bed.
I find these mottled brittlestars (ophionereis fasciata) incredibly fascinating, hence my second artwork of these finished this week in the studio. I’m needing to be time efficient to get enough works finished for my upcoming Queenstown art show, 4 days of exhibiting! The Queenstown Art Show

An interesting fact is that brittlestars feed by filtering tasty morsels from a water column that moves through mucus between their arms. They have rows of sharp teeth that grind up prey on the underside.
They can purposefully re-grow a leg if it’s broken off or bitten off by a fish, they self-amputate a leg 🦵🏻 and can reproduce asexually- a small piece of a brittlestar can form into a whole other animal.

Following on from my study into marine species, this piece focuses on our echinoderms - Brittlestars. After lots of research, these amazing snake-like creatures can re-grow an arm, whip themselves across the ocean floor, wrangle and coil themselves across corals and sponges, and are found in all oceans even surviving in extremely cold temperatures. Just incredible!

Wow, what an incredible trip away!
A much needed break from the daily pressures of school, running two businesses, art shows, exhibitions, commissions, dressmaking work, mummy duties and so much more.
This is Lamington national park, where we ventured into the Gold Coast hinterlands, and explored on foot - long day walks, exploring waterfalls and lush fern life, we heard rare frogs, and birds that sounded like laser beams (whip bird) and the catbird that sounds like a baby crying! The girls hand fed the endangered regent bowerbird, crimson rosellas, king parrots and satin bowerbirds that visited us right outside on the deck.

Puriri Moth.
This unique and perfectly camouflaged moth is one of New Zealand’s largest species, with a wingspan of up to 15cm. I was lucky enough to find one of these stunning lichen green moths, and I had the chance to study its intricate wing patterns, to photograph it, and began this design based upon a real specimen.
