East Meets West: Artist Exchange Program is an artistic initiative organized by Karnali Arts Center since 2022. The primary objective of this program is to promote fraternity, collaboration, and creative dialogue among theatre artists from around the world through cultural exchange.
Through this program, artists from different countries and regions are provided with an opportunity to experience the social life, cultural traditions, and geographical diversity of Karnali. At the same time, the program creates a platform for collaboration with local artists, encouraging the exchange of new ideas, artistic practices, and creative perspectives.
This initiative aims to establish Karnali not only as a place for artistic presentation but also as a shared space for intercultural dialogue and creative collaboration.
This year's East Meets West: Artist Exchange Program focused on the upcoming House of Representatives election in Nepal, which is taking place in the context of the civic movement that took places last september.
Through the collaboration of eight artists from different districts of Nepal and artists from Karnali, a participatory street theatre (Kachahari Theatre) was created to promote voter education in Karnali Province.
The play was performed at 10 different locations across four districts of Karnali — Surkhet, Jajarkot, Salyan, and Rukum West — reaching nearly 5,000 audience members.
