Mithila house will be opening soon in a new location. We are re-branding and coming up with new collections very soon. As we are a social enterprise, we need to make sure that we are making an impact as well. As we are planning and strategizing our venture, We promise we will be back soon and will be opening by April.

Standing under this beautiful mural, by curated by our amazing young artists at the Embassy of India, is such a proud and overwhelming feeling. It’s been more than 5 years relentlessly promoting this culture which brings me closer to my roots and my ancestors.

^• These art pieces depict imagery of daily domestic activities of homeowners from Habitat for Humanity Nepal’s working area in Madesh region. Mithila Art is an art form passed down over generations from women to women and is seen traditionally on mud walls and floors of homes in the lower region of Eastern Nepal and in parts of India. Originating from the Mithila region, and dated back to the 7th century, this art form usually explores the interconnectedness of people with nature. In present day, many female artists from the region, have taken up this art form more commercially. These artworks was produced in collaboration with Mithila House, a venture established to promote Mithila Art and Culture. •^

|•• We are back with our monthly Saturday mithila art session starting this month on 17th February 2024 at ••|

|•^ Mithila art, is a 7th century art form, with elements that promotes co-existence and interconnectedness. The art form is an epitome of mythological importance with essence of lives of women in terai and the nature elements that gives the holistic touch to the art form. There are many elements of the art form but fish, peacock, elephant, lotus and mithila women are the core elements. Fish and peacock symbolizes prosperity and fertility while elephant symbolizes depth and humility, lotus signifies the universal life force and the opening of the consciousness of the divine and mithila women the epitome of beginning and Mother Earth. This beautiful connection of nature and the respect for one another is what we are portraying through this artwork. The art form also is used as a form of activism and women empowerment tool to advocate and spread awareness on the changing narratives of women in terai ^•|
