The Micro-Folie project is centered around a Digital Museum developed in collaboration with 12 founding national cultural institutions. Depending on the venue hosting the Micro-Folie and the project designed for and with the local community, several complementary modules can accompany the Digital Museum, including a Virtual Reality space, a stage, and a community gathering space. The aim is to create a welcoming, accessible, and multifunctional space offering a wide range of cultural and educational activities.
The Micro-Folie network has been built around a distinctive visual identity developed by La Villette. This identity is inspired by Bernard Tschumi's Folies—bright red architectural structures of various forms, all based on a cubic design. These Folies were created in 1983 as part of a major redevelopment project for Parc de la Villette, which had previously been the site of slaughterhouses. Tschumi's design transformed the 55-hectare area into a vibrant public park, preserving it from excessive urban development and creating a unique setting where culture, nature, and architecture coexist harmoniously.
