NEIGHBOURS — AIAR Exhibition

Artudio International Artists Residency (AIAR) is pleased to announce Neighbours, a new exhibition by our September resident artist Sophia Pichon Riviere.

During her time in Kathmandu, Sophia has been observing the city through the animals that inhabit it—dogs, crows, pigeons, and other beings encountered in and around her everyday surroundings.

Neighbours brings together portraits of some of these animals. They are not presented as symbols or characters, but as living beings with their own interests, relationships, fears, and desires.

“These are some of the animals I’ve encountered around Kathmandu. Most of them live around the studio. Some I’ve seen once, some many times. So I painted them.”

The exhibition marks an intimate encounter between an artist, a place, and the non-human lives that share it.

SPECIAL COMIC SESSION AT ARTUDIO 🎨✍️

As part of her residency at Artudio, our resident artist Sophia Pichon Riviere led a special comic-making session during this week’s ArtSaturday at ArtsCool.

Through drawing, storytelling, imagination, and playful experimentation, young participants explored the possibilities of comics as a space for creative expression. Sophia encouraged them to approach drawing intuitively, embrace unexpected ideas, and enjoy the process of making.

It was a wonderful exchange between a visiting artist and our young creative community—bringing new perspectives, playful narratives, and plenty of imagination into the studio.

A Canvas Without a Frame

As part of Artudio’s Studio Visit Program, we spent time with artist Kapil Mani Dixit encountering his studio, his process, and his thoughts on freedom, boundaries, and making.

From unstretched canvases to open cages and figures that refuse to stay within the rules of anatomy, the visit reminded us that freedom in art can begin by simply loosening the frame.

ARTUDIO RESIDENCY | GALLERY VISIT

As part of her residency journey in Kathmandu, Artudio International Artists Residency (AIAR) resident artist Sophia Pichon Riviere sophia pichon visited Kala Salon The Kalā Salon to engage with the space, its exhibitions, and the ongoing conversations within Kathmandu’s contemporary art scene.

The gallery visit offered Sophia an opportunity to connect with artists, artworks, and perspectives that are shaping the evolving contemporary art landscape of Nepal.

Artudio International Artists Residency encourages such encounters—where residency extends beyond the studio and becomes an exchange with the wider artistic ecosystem.
