A RARE AND SACRED THANGKA PROJECT | DORJE ART CENTER 🙏

Nojin Shenpa Marpoe Lhatsog — Traditional Tibetan Buddhist Art

Dorje Art Center is honored to be involved in the creation of this special thangka project with the guidance and support of Tulku Rinpoche Jigmed Namgyal Dorje.

This sacred subject represents an important part of Tibetan Buddhist artistic heritage. Through traditional thangka painting, detailed drawing, symbolic imagery, and painstaking craftsmanship, we aim to preserve and continue the precious tradition of Himalayan sacred art.

At Dorje Art Center, we believe every thangka carries more than artistic beauty. It reflects devotion, cultural heritage, spiritual symbolism, and the dedication of traditional artists who keep these practices alive for future generations.

New Moon

We have a “new Moon” when our Moon's orbit around Earth moves it between Earth and the Sun. From Earth, the Moon's surface looks dark because the illuminated side is facing away from Earth.

In 563 or 566 B.C.E., a prince was born to a noble family of the Shakya clan, in a very beautiful park called Lumbini Grove, which lay in the foothills of the Himalayas (in present-day southern Nepal). This beautiful park was not far from the capital city of the Shakya kingdom, Kapilavastu. The prince’s father, King Shuddhodana, named his son Siddhartha. He was a member of the Kshatriya, or royal warrior caste, and his clan lineage, the Gautamas, was ancient and pure. His mother was Mahamaya or Mayadevi, daughter of a powerful Shakya noble, Suprabuddha. Before the conception of Siddhartha, Queen Mahamaya dreamed that a white elephant, extraordinary and utterly beautiful, entered her body. Soon after the birth, soothsayers predicted that the young prince would become either a Chakravartin, a universal monarch, or an “awakened one,” a buddha. So from the very beginning of his birth, he showed signs of perfection.

༄ Dakini Day ༄
Vajravarahi, a key aspect of Vajrayogini in Tibetan Kagyu traditions, is depicted as a youthful, semi-wrathful deity. She stands on a white moon disc, adorned with bone ornaments and garlands of severed heads and red flowers. With two faces symbolizing relative and absolute truth, she wields a curved knife and holds a skull-cup of blood. Her black sow's head above her crown represents her triumph over ignorance. The thangka also features four heart-dakinis and the white sambhogakaya form of Vairocana Buddha. In the foreground, there are stacked jewels, auspicious substances, and skull-cups with blue nectar and fresh blood. Vajravarahi radiates wisdom fire, surrounded by a vibrant aura.

In Vajrakilaya practice, Shenpa accumulation are powerful method for directly working with these patterns-cutting attachment at it's root and clearing deeply embedded obstacles on both an inner and outer level.
