Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder - LKV

LKV is a working community housing over 46 professional artists. The old gym building houses four apartments for artists in residency.

Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder (LKV) is an artist‑run institution in Trondheim founded in 1993, that contains over 40 studios for professional artists, shared workshops, an international artist‑in‑residence program, and the artist‑run exhibition space BABEL. Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder (LKV) is a foundation that runs a production space for professional artists, an interdisciplinary artist-in-residence program and the exhibition space BABEL. LKV is housed in a former school building from 1906, and contains 42 studios for professional artists and facilities for working with wood, metal, printmaking (silkscreen, etching and lithography) and analogue photography.

Greetings to Sirja Moberg! She is an artist based in Finland, and is in residence at LKV via Nordic Analog Network during September. Moberg works with experimental analog photography, installation, bioart, video and sculpture. She feels important to deepen human interconnectedness to nature through photographic practices and bioart. The combination of art and science collaboration and blending it with sacred ecology are characteristic features in her work. In LKV Moberg will make ecological and experimental cameraless photographs in the darkroom and lead a hands on soil chromatography workshop during her stay.

Greetings to Marjolaine Turpin! She is an artist based in France, and is in residence at LKV during September and October through a cross residency with Artistes en résidence

«Precarity and attentive gesture are at the heart of Marjolaine Turpin’s work. The artist travels through unknown places and limits without haste, highlights the faults, the gaps, the edges, the fragilities through various plastic gestures then recounts through a variety of discreet and non-authoritarian practices the accidents of the material and its tenuous inscriptions. Composing with the human and natural characteristics of the place, she takes part in a logic of caring and hospitable restraint. « Juliette Gafreteau

For her residency in LKV, Marjolaine will be able to discover new landscapes and ecosystems, to meet and exchange with local initiatives in order to explore the development of small ecosystems—surfaces where plants and minerals such as glass or ceramics can interact.

Greetings to Elene Usdin! She is a French artist whose practice spans photography, illustration and graphic novels, combining film photography, drawing and painting. She is currently taking part in Septentrionales, a travelling residency across Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland, organized in collaboration with the French Institutes in the region. During this residency, she will be developing Prairie, a graphic novel set in a near-future Nordic landscape shaped by climate change. Her journey through the region will provide visual and cultural inspiration for the project, from landscapes and industrial sites to folklore, crafts and local artistic traditions.

Elene Usdin is on a residency program through Septentrionales and will be staying at Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder from August 31 to September 3. The Septentrionales is a traveling residency program for contemporary creation by the French Institutes of Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. In this program the artist travels to different countries and locations while creating.

Welcome to a guest artist talk with Funda Zeynep Ayguler, Wednesday September 02 at 12:00.

Funda Zeynep Ayguler works at the intersection of visual, and linguistic mediums through media installations, algorithms, and hybrid interfaces. Her practice integrates a background in architecture with advanced studies in media art. Her recent projects have been part of major art and design events across Europe, and she has collaborated with cultural institutions and organisations, primarily focusing on art-science collaborations and site-specific works.

Today, a handful of LKV artists, residency artists and the administration joined forces to create a class photo in front of Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder - the former Lademoen School.

«School After School» is a long-term artistic research project by artist Serhii Pohrebyskyi, who is currently in residence at LKV. The project explores former school buildings, their histories, and the lives they continue to have after their original educational function has ended.

«Instead of pupils, artists and staff from LKV gather together inside and around the former school building. The photographs capture a temporary moment of community - people who give the building its new life today.

The school is no longer a school, but it is still a place where people learn. Only the form of learning has changed.”

Welcome to a guest artist talk with Serhii Pohrebyskyi, Wednesday August 19 at 12:00.

Serhii Pohrebyskyi (b. 1987, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian site-responsive artist currently living and working in Stockholm, Sweden. He graduated from the National Academy of Fine Art and Architecture in Kyiv, where he later completed postgraduate studies in graphic arts, and has been a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine since 2012. Since relocating to Sweden in 2022, his practice has focused on long-term artistic research exploring the relationships between place, memory, history and local communities. Rather than being defined by a single medium, he develops each project in response to the specific context of a site, allowing the place itself to determine the form and material of the work. He is a co-founder of Mot noll Collective, an artist group developing site-responsive artistic research and public art projects in Sweden.

Greetings to John Andrew Wilhite! He is an artist based in Oslo, and is in residence at LKV during August. He is a sound artist and composer working with archival and found acoustic materials, as well as traditional compositional approaches. John Andrew often works in interdisciplinary and large scale formats, with works developing across several years and coming to expression in various formats. At LVK he will be collaborating with fellow resident manuel arturo abreu on the project Rot Society, exploring the generative element of rot and decomposition, both semantically and physically.

Greetings to manuel arturo abreu! Rot Society is a collective comprising non disciplinary artist manuel arturo abreu, composer John Andrew Wilhite, artist and baker Javon Bennett, and performer and permaculturalist Ayesha Jordan. rot society grounds itself in the environment’s agency, exploring how human communities create collective meaning through ritual, art, and theater.

During their Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder residency, Rot Society will explore ephemeral, edible, and potable sculptures; autodestructive composition, improvisation, and sonic installation; and infrasonic frequencies, overtone singing, and asemic (non-semantic) writing, and as divinatory and diaristic practices. They are also interested in the calligraphic, illuminated manuscript, and ornamental writing traditions of Trondheim. As well as a work in process showing at Babel the 9th of August, manuel and John Andrew will present their work at Black Box Theater (Oslo) and MINU festival (Copenhagen) this November.

Sunday the 9th of August at 2pm, we invite you to a concert with Trondheims Improvisors Guild, a collection of Trondheims finest creative musicians from all genre backgrounds, as they play scores created by Rot Society members Wilhite and Abreu that experiment with the limits of communication and actively follow the logic of its loss. For example: What if a score is written on sand, played by a wind instrument? To play the score is to destroy it, how would one then continue to follow it?

Saturday the 8th at 5pm, the artists will hold an open workshop in preparation for the concert.

Rot Society is an international artist group consisting of John Andrew Wihite, manuel arturo abreu, Javon Bennett, and Ayesha Jordan. Together they investigate the generative capacities and Rot and Decomposition through interdisciplinaty work. The project is inspired by the Scandinavian free jazz/theater collective «Organic Music Society» founded by Don and Moki Cherry in Tågarp, Sweden.

Trondheim Improvisors Guild is an improvisation collective featuring some of Norway’s most exciting improvising musicians today. It functions as an exploratory laboratory for improvisation, bringing together musicians with diverse musical backgrounds, with the aim of experimenting, learning from one another, and creating work collectively.
