Greetings to Antony Nevin!
Antony (Ant) is an artist and researcher based in Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand, and is in residence at LKV during May. His practice sits at the intersection of biological systems, generative AI, and interactive design ; working with living organisms, environmental data, and sound to create immersive public and gallery works. At LKV I will develop two projects: the first, in collaboration with Biochemist and composer Ernest Giralt, explores the encoding of musical notes into the DNA of Thermotoga, a deep-sea bacterium, visualising the relationship between genetic structure and sound. The second extends his ongoing work Fluid Futures ; a public art project developed with New Zealand's Earth Sciences research organisation, into a new work provisionally called A Thousand Tiny Prophets: an investigation of the marine microorganisms found in Trondheim's waterways, which sit at the antipode of Aotearoa New Zealand, drawing connections between this Nordic coastline and the ocean stretching south from Wellington to Antarctica.
