Filipa Ramos will curate the 2027 edition of Lofoten International Art Festival!

Building on her long-standing research into how art reimagines forms of coexistence between humans, animals, and environments, her proposal for LIAF 2027 explores how sound and attentive practices of listening can bring together beings, places, and histories.

The LIAF Steering Committee and North Norwegian Art Centre are excited to welcome Filipa Ramos to collaborate with us here on the Lofoten archipelago, and we look forward to supporting her and experiencing her project come to fruition.

Filipa Ramos blir kurator for LIAF 2027!

Med utgangspunkt i økologi og en interesse for sameksistens på tvers av arter, bygger Ramos’ forslag til LIAF 2027 på en forståelse av kunst som en praksis som åpner særegne måter å lytte, observere og være i verden på. I Lofoten vil hun anvende oppmerksom lytting som metode for å nærme seg stedet.

Vi er svært glade for å ønske Filipa Ramos velkommen som kurator for LIAF 2027. Hun er en viktig stemme innenfor det internasjonale samtidskunstfeltet, og vi ser frem til å utvikle den kommende utgaven av festivalen i tett samarbeid med henne.

Meet the new Steering Committe!

Lofoten International Art Festival - LIAF will shift its upcoming edition from 2026 to 2027, marking the beginning of a new chapter under the guidance of a newly appointed Steering Committee.

As Scandinavia’s oldest art biennale, LIAF’s Steering Committee carries the artistic responsibility for the festival’s overall direction and appoints the curator for each edition.

Camilla Fagerli (vice chair) - Curator and Artistic Director.
Sverre Gullesen - Visual artist.
Jesse James - Curator, cultural producer and founder.
Tonje Plur - Textile artist.

Dette er den nye styringsgruppen!

Lofoten internasjonale kunstfestival - LIAF flytter kommende festivalår fra 2026 til 2027, og har samtidig gleden av å presentere sin nyutnevnte styringsgruppe.

Styringsgruppen for Skandinavias eldste kunstbiennale har det kunstneriske ansvaret for festivalens programmering, og oppnevner også kurator for kommende utgave.

Last day of the exhibition «Lines of Distribution»:

Since 21 November 2024, Lofoten International Art Festival - LIAF has been part of the exhibition at The Kitchen in New York City.

«Lines of Distribution» brought together new works by Viktor Bomstad, Elise Macmillan, Kameelah Janan Rasheed, and Wong Kit Yi that emerged from or was shaped by the artists’ engagements with both the 2024 edition of LIAF and The Kitchen’s local and institutional contexts.

It was also the first time LIAF travelled and extended to New York City.

Curated by The Kitchen’s Alison Burstein and co-curated by LIAF 2024’s Kjersti Solbakken, the cross-institutional dialogue between The Kitchen, LIAF, and its organizer North Norwegian Art Centre was initiated by the two curators, and attempted to examine the role institutions play in setting artists and artworks into motion while establishing a temporary distribution channel between the 2024 edition of LIAF, titled SPARKS and Lines of Distribution at The Kitchen.

We are wrapping up this year’s festival. Well, not quite. As stated by Kjersti Solbakken, this end is also a beginning. Lofoten International Art Festival will continue to expand and exchange through our ongoing and upcoming collaborations:
The Kitchen, KINOBOX, ROM for kunst og arkitektur, and Montez Press Radio will take LIAF 2024 towards new and exciting territory. Stay tuned.
