This young collective from South Africa is visiting Oslo Jazz festival next week, as part of an exchange programme with Concerts SA, bringing the South African sound of jazz to Oslo. See INIT at Herr Nilsen, Wednesday the 16th/10pm, or at Sentralen Saturday the 19th/ 5:45 pm.

| INIT., a collective of young musicians formed in late 2016. They'll be heading to this month for Oslo Jazz Festival (Nordic Showcase) as part of our programme.

"The collective was formed out of a shared idea: that young musicians need to be playing original music, as well as drawing on the music histories surrounding them, to express themselves and their ideas, and interact with each other and their surroundings.

The band comprises:
Shakeel Sohail-Gibran Cullis (Contrabass)
Thembelihle Dunjana (Piano)
Tefo Mahola (Drums and Percussion)
Ofentse Moshoetsi (Alto Saxophone)

All members are currently students at the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town. They are also all currently performing in and around the Local music scene on different professional stages.

INIT.’s focus is to highlight the musical histories of southern Africa with specific focus on jazz and the South African sound, in order to explore and develop it for themselves."
