Next summer, a new group of musicians will arrive in Lofoten. New faces, new friendships, and new musical experiences will create the next chapter of our festival story.

SUMMER 2027, July 5- July 10
A warm welcome back – and exciting new musical encounters.

Several of the artists appearing at the 2027 Lofoten International Chamber Music Festival have performed at the festival before. We are delighted to welcome them back to Lofoten, while also introducing a number of outstanding artists who will be making their festival debut.

Among the first artists announced for next year's festival are pianists Marc-André Hamelin, Dénes Várjon, Anna Fedorova and Nikita Khnykin. Three string quartets: Marmen Quartet, Engegard Quartet and Akela. Next years singer will be the German baritone Thomas Bauer. And last but not least: Klaus Mäkelä as a cellist.

Together, these artists represent the very highest level of international chamber music. Each brings a distinctive artistic voice, creating performances of exceptional musical depth, intimacy and inspiration.

These are the first artists to be announced. More performers and the full festival programme will be revealed in the months ahead.

A beautiful lunchtime concert in the historic Hol Church.

Rebecca and Andreas took the audience on a musical journey from Bach and Handel to Grieg, Ole Bull, and Bjarne Brustad.

Music full of contrast, colour, and character, performed with confidence, warmth, and infectious youthful energy.
At times, it almost felt as if the violins themselves wanted to dance.

It was easy to see the enjoyment—both on stage and in the audience.

* Hol Church is the second oldest church in Lofoten. Written sources mention a church at Hol as early as 1417, while the present wooden cruciform church was built in *1806. The church also served as a polling station during Norway's historic election in 1814 when representatives were chosen for the constitutional assembly at Eidsvoll.

Thank you for an unforgettable week.
Another Lofoten International Chamber Music Festival has come to an end.

To all our wonderful artists – thank you for sharing your music, your generosity, and your friendship. Every rehearsal, every conversation, and every concert made this festival something truly special.

To our audience – thank you for filling churches and concert halls throughout Lofoten. Your warm applause, curiosity, and enthusiasm are what make this festival come alive.

And to our volunteers – thank you. Your time, energy, and dedication make everything possible. The festival simply could not happen without you.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been part of this year's festival. We leave with wonderful memories, new friendships, and music that will stay with us for a long time.

We look forward to welcoming you all back to Lofoten next summer for the Lofoten International Chamber Music Festival 2027, from 5–10 July.

Until then, thank you for being part of our festival family.

Music for two strings, full of colour and character.

Hol Church today, 13:00.

Welcome to an intimate lunchtime concert in the beautiful Hol Church, where Rebecca Nøstrud Grimstad (violin) and Andreas Nøstrud Grimstad (viola) present a varied programme spanning from Bach and Händel to Grieg, Brustad and Ole Bull.

Despite their young age, both musicians have already established themselves on Norway's classical music scene. Rebecca was a finalist in NRK's Virtuos competition and has appeared as soloist with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK) and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.

A 45-minute concert in collaboration with LofotConcertino and Klassisk.

"The longest journey is the journey inward."

These words are carved into a stone near Abisko. I have walked past it many times, and somehow they feel connected to what we experience during this festival.

People come to Lofoten from all over the world. They travel long distances to be here. But maybe the most important journey is not the one that brings us here.

When we sit down and listen, something happens. For an hour or two, we forget our phones, our plans and everything we have to do. We simply listen.

The music is the same for everyone, but the experience is never the same. We all hear something different. We all take something different home.

Maybe that's what the words on the stone mean.
Sometimes the longest journey begins when we stop moving.

Over the past few days I've been wondering whether these concerts are about more than extraordinary performances.

This year's programme traces a remarkable journey through music history—from the Baroque's carefully shaped musical affects to the Romantic era, when European culture increasingly embraced individual experience and subjective expression.

As ideas about emotion evolved, composers expanded music's expressive language in ways that still shape how we listen today.

Watching these artists immerse themselves so completely in these works, it becomes clear that interpretation is more than performance. It is the bridge between the composer's imagination and our own.
