CHEERS is nominated for the Norwegian Critics Prize for Dance 2018/19!

Dancer/choreographer Kristin Helgebostad and carillonist/composer Laura Marie Rueslåtten have a close artistic relationship and have developed several projects over the years.
Helgebostad/Rueslåtten premiered their next piece CHEERS! at Dansens hus 23-26 November. CHEERS won the Oslo Prize of NATT&DAG for best stage performance in 2018. CHEERS was also nominated for the Norwegian Critics Prize 2018. The piece has been touring internationally and is now selected for the international Aerowaves network in 2020.
CHEERS is a merciless distortion of a cheerleader show, nearly unrecognizable, but always cheering! They investigate cheering as an unpredictable force which strengthens, weakens and never reaches a conclusion about what it is actually cheering for. Cheering is love and manipulation, either individually or collectively. Dancer/choreographer Kristin Helgebostad used to be a cheerleader in her teens, and with CHEERS she is going back to her roots. Together with the performers Marianne Kjærsund, Sigrid Kopperdal, Julie Moviken, Berglind Rafnsdottir and Charlott Utzig, costume designer Thale Kvam Olsen and lighting designer Elisabeth Nilsson, they transform the cheers, chants, acrobatics and pyramids. In their search for new approaches, they twist, turn, celebrate, problematize and contort the ways of cheerleading. Their throws can be small and careful, their cheers can be whispered or hissed, as long as they instigate action!
Helgebostad/Rueslåttens previous performance ME TOO, now named THEE TOO, premiered at Dansens hus in Oslo in 2015, and since has toured extensively both nationally and internationally. The piece is based on the amalgamation of hand bells and movement, and was nominated for the Norwegian Critics Prize the same year, as well as being selected for the international Aerowaves network and ICE HOT Nordic Dance Platform.
Kristin Helgebostad (b.1984) is a dancer and choreographer based in Oslo, Norway. She holds a BA in contemporary dance and an MA in choreography from Oslo’s National Academy of the Arts (KhiO), and works in several different constellations.orks include SOIL GIRL by the trio Berstad/Helgebostad/Wigdel. The piece has toured extensively in Scandinavia and Europe, i.e. ImPulsTanz (Vienna), Spring Forward (Barcelona) and Nordwind Festival (Berlin). The trio premiered their second piece SPOILER at Black Box Theatre in Oslo in 2017, which has toured MDT Stockholm, Rotterdam Theatre and more, and throughout 2018 will tour Oktoberdans in Bergen, and ICE HOT in Reykjavik. Together with Ingeleiv Berstad, Kristin was commissioned to choreograph LOUDSPEAKERS//BIRTHMARK (2015) for the National Company of Contemporary Dance (Carte Blanche). In February 2019 they premiered a new piece with Carte Blanche: KNOW HOWS. Other recent projects include PHANTASMAGORIC with Berstad/Brun/Helgebostad (Dansens Hus 2016, touring MDT Stockholm and Oktoberdans in 2018), LULLELI FOR FRUHOLMEN FYR with Norwegian Landscape Theatre (Ingøy 2016), AV HISTORISK GRUNN (Dansens Hus/ National Tour 2015-2017), THE REAL RAW (Corpus//Baby In Vain) at the Royal Theatre og Copenhagen and Roskilde Festival 2019, WE COME IN PEACE by Theisen/Lauvdal/Johannesdottir/Floen/Helgebostad (Dansens Hus september 2019, touring at RAS and Kilden) and NIKULPMYRENE by Wigdel/Lie/Berstad/Helgebostad (Black Box Teater novemebr 2019, touring at Rosendal teaterm BIT Bergen)
Laura Marie Rueslåtten (b.1984) is one of very few professional carillonists in Norway, with a seven year soloist education from the Scandinavian School of Carillonists in Denmark. She is a carillonist in Oslo City Hall and Urianienborg Church, and is part of the hand bell quartet Markusklokker. Laura Marie specialises in contemporary music and is frequently involved in cross over projects (i.e. the long term collaboration with Kristin Ryg Helgebostad). She composed original music for the performance SIRKLING by Tori Wrånes, which has toured nationally and internationally. During the summer months Laura Marie performs weekly in the Oslo City Hall, where she also is active in programming the repertoire. She also performs on special occasions like state visits and the Nobel Prize Ceremony. Laura Marie is frequently performing as a soloist in Norway and Europe.
