Open Call for Submissions for The Vessel 12 'Studio' 📣📣

Editors of The Vessel 12 STUDIO, Sofie Boons and Anneleen Swillen, invite submissions exploring the notion of the studio in motion, to be published as part of the upcoming edition of The Vessel.

We are specifically looking for craft practices that exist in shifting contexts, where making adapts to movement, embraces constraints, or unfolds across changing locations. We hope to feature submissions in the form of triptychs that evoke dialogue among the images, and collectively articulate the diverse, portable, and evolving nature of dispersed studio practices.

Deadline for submissions: 1 September 2026

We have moved! 👀📦

Norwegian Crafts and Norske Kunsthåndverkere [the Norwegian Association for Craft Artists] have moved from our former offices in Rådhusgata.

📍: We are now located in Nedre Slottsgate 25, 0157 Oslo.

The new offices are in Oslo’s Grensen area, only a five-minute walk from the old ones. We look forward to welcoming both new and old collaborators when we have settled in.

🌿✨ The Vessel 11 GARDEN is now online! 🌿✨

GARDEN is edited by artists Magdalena Kotkowska and soso brafield. In their issue, the garden becomes a studio and a site of exchange between materials, stories, and bodies. The issue highlights the many ways in which artistic practice mimics the rhythms of a garden, from sowing seeds to harvesting the ripened fruits. It shows us how we, artists and non-artists alike, rely on our relationship with all that surrounds us.

GARDEN is the second to launch in a trio of issues showcasing crafts’ relationship with three key spaces: the home, the garden, and the studio.

Open call 📢📢 Norwegian Crafts now welcomes editorial proposals for The Vessel 12 ‘STUDIO’.

The issue is the last of a trio: ‘HOME’, ‘GARDEN’ and ‘STUDIO’, featuring different guest editors and contributors for each issue. The Vessel 10 HOME launched in November 2025 and The Vessel 11 GARDEN will launch in Spring 2026.

The theme of 'STUDIO’ provides an opportunity to explore a broad spectrum of making processes and the environments that enable them. A craftsperson’s studio is a unique, flexible and dynamic space. It can be permanent or provisional, solitary or shared. It might sit within the home, exist outdoors, or be spread out across several locations to serve different functions and stages in the making process.

There are numerous perspectives to consider in relation to different craft practices, when contemplating the studio. By manipulating indoor and outdoor spaces, one can create a space that is beautiful and functional, whilst providing optimal conditions for making. With this issue, we hope to make visible the rich and diverse conditions where making takes place.

Gjertrud Hals becomes the first Norwegian craft artist to be selected as a finalist for the Loewe Craft Prize! ✨

From a pool of 5,100 applicants, the Loewe Craft Prize has selected works by 30 finalists, which will be exhibited at the National Gallery in Singapore from 13 May to 14 June 2026. Among the finalists is Norwegian craft artist Gjertrud Hals. She has been selected with a series of open vessels that the artist has hand-knitted, hand-dyed, and then treated with resin.

The Loewe Craft Prize is one of the world’s leading international awards for contemporary craft. The annual winner receives €50,000, and there are two “special mention” prizes of €5,000 each. The prize was established in 2016 by Loewe’s former creative director Jonathan Anderson, now creative director of Dior. The finalists were chosen through an open call by an international jury of 13 craft experts.

UPCOMING APPLICATION DEADLINE: SUPPORT SCHEME FOR INTERNATIONAL CRAFT PROJECTS 📢📢

The support scheme's first application deadline this year is 15 February 2026 at 14:00 CET.

The purpose of the scheme is to provide active craft artists, duojárat, and other professionals from Norway with more international opportunities and a broader international network. The support scheme for international craft projects is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and administered by Norwegian Crafts.

The Support Scheme for International Craft Projects has a financial frame of 1 200 000 NOK and three application deadlines annually: 15 February, 15 May, 15 October (at 14:00 CET).

Save the date: Talk at Ceramic Brussels 2026 📌

Following last year’s focus on Norway at Ceramic Brussels, Norwegian Crafts is pleased to host a talk at the upcoming edition of the art fair.✨

The event will include three short artist presentations by Nina Malterud, Heidi Bjørgan and Daniela Bergschneider. All Bergen-based artists, who are also represented at Ceramic Brussels. The presentations will be followed by a conversation between the three artists moderated by Marthe Yung Mee Hansen, adviser and producer at Norwegian Crafts.
