Are you a mambo/salsa dancer who wants to widen your range of movement and expression? Then you have to try Mambo Contemporary!

In this class you will learn to develop your mambo and afro-movements into a personal and modern expression. We will use contemporary concepts to strengthen your understanding of the body and movement, while working with what you know of mambo, son, rumba, other Afro-Cuban dances and related genres.

The goal in mambo contemporary will be based in choreography and drills, learning how to express different musical genres through both mambo and contemporary vocabulary. This results in a intuitive and personal relationship to your own movements.

Mambo Contemporary is an invented term, capturing some of the influences we see in the contemporary mambo scene. We see many teachers exploring genres like Afro-mambo fusion and contemporary salsa. Among popular artists working on similar movements are Tania Cannarsa, Angelo Gioffre and Maria Malakou.

Contemporary is a broad genre, but it is centred in creativity, musicality, floor work, lines and breaking of lines, and contraction-release. It inherits it’s roots from modern dance, ballet, jazz and hip hop.
