💚 Q***r Community Zine Issue 5: DIY 💚
We welcome you to the release of the latest zine Aptil 30th
A note from the editors about the issue:
DIY, like much of the q***r lived experience, can be an act of protest and activism. Q***r communities have always had to do it for ourselves, going against the grain to carve out space. DIY does not necessarily mean doing it alone. Collectively q***r folxs have been building safe(r) spaces to foster communities in, communicating through zines, expressing ourselves through drag and performance, building q***r businesses supported by q***r folxs, highlighting q***r joy and making our presence known through (pre-commercialised) pride, and developing mutual aid and care networks when our lives are not valued and healthcare information or access is withheld.
In the q***r context DIY often comes from necessity, but our contributors reveal the many headed hydra of DIY. Issue 5 explores self love and self expression, makes space for play and to imagine collaboratively, contests societal norms, and displays actions of support and love to our community. Issue 5 is all about doing things for ourselves; by doing things for ourselves we learn, stimulating our minds and empowering our communities to grow. DIY is q***r as f*ck.
QCZ is DIY. Our project started from a desire to document our q***r community and our q***r lived experience. It continues to be ad-hoc, underfunded, and fundamentally DIY. We like it that way.
Issue 5 is our first issue of Volume 2 and marks two milestones for us; through funding from Fritt Ord we’ve been able to support our q***r community through commissioned work for the first time, which includes a longer form piece in Norwegian.
Finally, while we receive some funding, we still appreciate your support so we can keep QCZ free to all who want to access it. You can find our Vipps on the last page.
Make things, do things, have fun, be gay.
