I've been meaning to share this for awhile. But I've been so focused on my health and finding my voice again, that social media has been an afterthought.
Over the past year, many small changes have led to many small improvements in my health. After much deliberation, I decided in June to submit an online entry to this year's Sang NM competition (formerly Karaoke NM).
I was selected to advance to the national finals this weekend, where I will compete with some of the country's best karaoke singers for the opportunity to represent Norway at the Karaoke World Championship in October.
It was four years ago on that world karaoke stage that my body began breaking down, so coming back to this competition means a lot to me. While I'm not back to my pre-covid self, I have gained a better understanding of my body's limits and respect for her boundaries. And getting through this weekend will be a test of how well I have taken those lessons to heart.
And, as if to remind me who's in charge of this sh*tshow, my body decided to play host to a nasty virus this week - complete with a fever and feeling like I got hit by a bus. So instead of last run-throughs & picking out what to wear, I've been sleeping and monitoring my temperature. But I've been taking care of myself & drinking my fluids, and the worst of it is in the rear view. And I'm hitting that stage, come hell or high water.
Not how I planned on making my competition comeback, but it is what it is. If life was easy all the time, it'd get boring real quick.
If you're in the Oslo area and would like to cheer me on in person, I would be honored to have you in the audience at Kulturpuben Lillestrøm. I know Lillestrøm is a bit of a slog from Oslo, but there is no ticket charge this year (though donations to the national team are appreciated).
If you're not able to be there in person, but still want to cheer me on, all three rounds of the competition will be streamed on YouTube (links in the post below).
