Two years ago, on the 5th of September 2019, SCHREI vol.3 premiered at Teater Viirus in Helsinki, Finland. After that we went on a tour, performing both at the Faroe Islands and in Norway. Wow, two years alredy! Feels like yesterday! 🧡
On this account we’ll start off by posting some pictures from our previous projects, and soon also share some exciting news about upcoming work! 🔥🖤🔥

In SCHREI productions we make NOISY feminist performances. And we’ll keep on raising our voices for a more equal society. Cause no one is truly free while others are oppressed. So, let's BE NOISY! Let's be the change! 🔥🖤🔥

In 2020 SCHREI productions didn't get to make much noise. There were several festivals being interested in SCHREI vol.3, which we produced in 2019, but yeah, a certain pandemic got in our way. Anyways, SCHREI productions are now (even more) on the world wide web(!) as a part of Viola Othilie Tømtes artistic website. As we are planning ahead, feel free to enjoy some visuals and some NOISE from our previous work. 🔥🖤🔥

SCHREI productions is a performance concept initiated by Viola Othilie Tømte, and developed in collaboration with other artists. In SCHREI productions we make audiovisual performances with the starting point of investigating and questioning how women and the feminine are portrayed and presented in art and society.
The repertoire of SCHREI productions includes three performances:
SCHREI, which was Violas graduating performance from the Norwegian Theatre Academy. Performed at the 10th-12th of March and at the 10th-11th of June 2016. Created and performed by Viola Othilie Tømte. Sound and light design by Felipe Osorio-Guzmán. Tutored by Annalisa Dal Pra and BBB Johannes Deimling.
The starting point of SCHREI was a wish to investigate how angry women have been portrayed and presented in theatre and performance, in a historical perspective. The inspiration for the expressions created was female caretakers from Greek tragedies, female performers from the feminist performance art movement in the 60ies and 70ies, and the personal experience of being a female performer in today's art scene.
SCHREI vol.2, which was performed at Kajskjul 46 in Gothenburg (Sweden) at the 17th-18th of June 2017. This performance was created by Viola and Jesper Berger. Performed by Viola. Sound and light design by Jesper. Artistic consultation by Svante Grogarn. The project was financially supported by Göteborg Stad and KulturUngdom.
The starting point of SCHREI vol.2 was a wish to dive deeper into the thematics of SCHREI, with the intention of reaching more perspectives of the portrayal and presentation of the angry women. Important inspiration in this work, in addition to the material inspiring the expressions of SCHREI, was the novel Kassandra and the novel Medea - Voices, both written by Christa Wolf.
SCHREI vol.3, which was performed at Teater Viirus in Helsinki (Finland) at the 5th-7th of September, at Mentanarhúsið í Fuglafirði (Faroe Islands) at the 19th-21st of September and at Blå Grotte in Fredrikstad (Norway) at 26th-27th of September 2019. This performance was created and performed by Viola and two other performers, Mariann Hansen and Klara Wenner Tångring. Scenography and costume design by Johanna Dahlbäck. Sound design by Josef Donner. Artistic consultation by Henriikka Himma and Essi Rossi. The project was financially supported by Norsk Kulturfond, Nordisk Kulturkontakt, Svenska Kulturfonden, Mentamálaráðið and Norsk Skuespillerforbund.
The staring point of SCHREI vol.3 was to broaden the investigation of the portrayal and presentation of the angry women by researching her in a collective of artists and feminists. The literature which inspired this work was different interpretations of the myth of Medea (Medea by Euripides, Medea - Voices by Christa Wolf, Medealand by Sara Stridsberg), interviews with female and feminist performance artists from the 60ies and 70ies from the book Angry Women, edited by A. Juno and V. Vale and autobiographical texts. The result was an audiovisual and immersive performance, inviting the audience on a journey of exploring different aspects of female anger.
