Into Nature is looking for a handler for the upcoming autumn-winter season of 24/25.
Into Nature is a dogsledding kennel located in the countryside of Tromsø on the Peninsula of Malangen, approximately a 1 hour 15 minutes drive from the city.
We are a small racing kennel with 25 lovely Alaskan Huskies (plus upcoming puppies this summer) and we offer various tourism activities, including dog sledding and other outdoor adventures.
We are planning to participate in many long-distance races during the upcoming winter, including the Finnmarksløpet 600.
For the right person, we would like to offer the opportunity to participate in 1-2 long distance races during the season and to be a handler for the Finnmarksløpet.
We place a significant emphasis on the well-being of our dogs, with daily free running and care such as massages, stretching, laser and ultrasound therapy and providing high-quality nutrition.
We are seeking someone who has a strong interest in race training, dog care, and an outdoor lifestyle but also:
-High physical and mental capacity.
-Demonstrates a strong desire to learn and grow within the role.
-Enjoys and adapts to the challenges of training, including long days and nights.
-Maintains a positive attitude towards both dogs and humans, remaining calm in stressful situations.
-Have good communication skills.
-Can effectively manage cold weather conditions, ensuring the well-being of both themselves and the dogs.
-Maintains passion and determination as the season progresses and challenges intensify (from December to February).
-Capable of handling a sled with 8-12 dog.
-Comfortable working autonomously throughout the season.
-Flexibility and adaptability to changing schedules and conditions.
-Problem-solving skills: Can effectively troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise during training or while out on the trail.
Accommodation and food will be provided, along with a monthly stipend.
The accommodation consists of a 25-square meter wooden cabin equipped with all necessary amenities (electricity, toilet, and a small kitchen).
If we believe you have the capacity for guiding, additional salary will be provided.
We do require that you possess a driver’s license (B), and having a BE-trailer license is a significant advantage.
We live just a few minutes away from a stunning fjord, several beautiful lakes, and a magnificent waterfall. The spectacular surrounding area offers numerous opportunities for fishing, trekking, skiing, and various other outdoor activities.
