We’re Siril and Eyner, the couple behind Nicasino and Nicasino Dance Festival. We’re married, parents of two young children, dance partners and business partners – so yes, we spend quite a lot of time together.
We have both danced for most of our lives, but we started dancing casino in 2010, in two different parts of the world: Siril in Norway and Eyner in Nicaragua.
When we met in León in 2011, Siril joined a rueda de casino group that Eyner had started. At the time, neither casino nor rueda de casino had been danced in León before, so Eyner built the group from the ground up. We soon became a couple and later started a dance school together through La Isla Foundation.
We ran the school for almost two years before moving to Kristiansand. We have taught together here since 2014, and in 2019, we officially founded Nicasino.
For us, teaching dance is about much more than showing people a series of steps. We want our students to understand the music, the culture and the feeling behind the dance. We care about technique and development, but we also know that people learn better when they feel comfortable enough to try, make mistakes and ask questions.
In our classes, we want to create a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of humour, while still helping every student progress from their own level. We want beginners to feel that dancing is something they can learn, and more experienced dancers to feel challenged and inspired to keep developing.
Most importantly, we want people to keep their motivation and enjoyment of dancing – and to get to know others along the way.
We believe that anyone can learn to dance. The most important thing is not how you dance, but how you feel when you dance ❤️
