Context: Summer of 1999, through the eyes of a fifteen year old me, witnessing my mother taking her last breath after a four year long battle with cancer. As a final wish she wanted to die in our home, surrounded by mourning family and friends.

In the midst of my mothers cancer treatments and the care I could give her at our home , I was trying to perform at school, trying to find a balance being a teenager, brother, son, friend and boyfriend, I tried to escape from reality through music and taking up different personas, all about everyday survivability. I'm not sure if I came out any stronger.

I lost not only my mother that day, but a huge piece of myself, and I'll probably never retrieve that piece again.
