Whitsun or Pentecost
Whitsun is a Christian holiday which is celebrated in churches all over Norway. However for many Whitsun - or "Pinse" in Norwegian - means a long weekend as Whit Monday is a public holiday.

If you are travelling this weekend, be prepared for queues and lots of traffic out of Oslo on Friday and back again on Monday.

Holidays in May – be prepared
May is the month of the many extra holidays. It already began last Saturday and with the result of very long shopping queues, especially at the Vinmonopolet, on Friday.

Next weekend will be a long weekend celebration of Ascension Day on Thursday and Constitution Day on Monday. More information about the celebrations in our next Happy Weekend edition coming out on Wednesday 12th May.

First official day of summer!
Wednesday, 14th April, used to be considered the first day of summer in older times. The weather that day should, according to old belief, have an impact on how the summer will be. Frost and snow were considered a warning of a bad and cold spring, while a hot summer day predicted a good summer. Now it's up to you how superstitious you choose to be ... 😊

The forecast for the coming days is at least very nice. The upcoming weekend will be sunny and warm!
For the brave ones – and they are increasing in number - can take a dip in Mjøsa before as the last of the ice slowly melts aways.

Spring Cleaning
Gjøvik Kommune this week started the spring cleaning of all streets and the work will continue a few weeks. Signs will be put up in “your” street, a minimum of 24hrs in advance.

For all car owners it is important to watch out for the signs and to move the car in time. Check when they will come to your street here.

Tax return 2020
If you received salary in 2020 you will receive your tax return between16th March and 7th April. The tax return presents a summary of your income, deductions, wealth and debt. To make sure you do not pay too much tax, you must check that the information in the tax return is correct.
Each of us will receive a notification per email or SMS letting us know the tax return is ready and we can log in.
Paper tax returns will be sent 7th April. The deadline for submitting the tax return is 30th April.

In March/April every year, everyone who receives a salary, pension or disability benefit  receives a tax return. It presents a summary of your income, deductions, wealth and debt. To make sure you do not pay too much tax, you must check that the information in the tax return is correct.
