International Theatre Lab

International Theatre Lab International Theatre Lab (ITL) is a Norway-based production and research organization run by theatre professionals.

At the heart of the ITL are two basic concepts: firstly, a commitment to international exploration; and secondly, the aspiration to be a facilitating force for truly efficient interaction between theory and practice, as well as between traditional and alternative theatre practices. ITL provides a safe environment for original and dynamic exploration. Actors, dancers, performers and other artists a

re invited to create and discover new forms, languages and methods, keeping alive the tradition and legacy of theatre as laboratory.

HAPPY WORLD THEATRE DAY!

“The beautiful culture of theatre will live for as long as we stay here.

The creative urge of writers, designers, dancers, singers, actors, musicians, directors, will never be suffocated and in the very near future will flourish again with a new energy and
a new understanding of the world we all share.
I can’t wait"

For some politicians and all those who have little understanding of the role of art in our society, here is a reminder:

‘Art should not please. On the contrary. Art has to show where it hurts in our societies, in our world. We urgently need the courage back to pick up this role of disturbers again.’ (from a speech delivered by the Belgian festival director and curator Frie Leysen at the 2015 Australian Theatre Forum)

Many arts organisations have become dinosaurs, failing to evolve to respond to the needs of new work, delegates at the Australian Theatre Forum were warned.
