ReCraft is heading to Cannes

In less than two weeks, Royal Balk Shipyard will be in the South of France for the Cannes Yachting Festival. A superyacht refit is not a maintenance event. It is a capital project with fixed timelines, significant financial exposure, and no room for error once it begins. What separates a controlled project from a problematic one is not the yard itself, but how the project is managed.

The facilities at Balk Shipyard are purpose-built for ReCrafts™

And it all starts with our bespoke shiplift.

This custom-made system has been engineered for speed, efficiency and safety. We can haul yachts out of the water and onto the hardstanding in a matter of hours. A rail system running throughout the yard then lets us position yachts in any one of our three climate-controlled ReCraft™ halls, ready to be reimagined.

With a capacity of up to 1,000 tonnes, we are perfectly primed for all yachts from 30 to 65 metres in length, and with full keel support and unlimited head height, we can safely manoeuvre yachts with even the most delicate hulls or the tallest masts.

And when it's time to relaunch, we can have yachts back in the water in under an hour.

A ReCraft™ doesn't necessarily have to start from a yacht…

The 48.70m sailing yacht Rossiya started life as a traditional Dutch fishing trawler. She was designed for commercial use and regularly visited Royal Balk Shipyard for maintenance work. On one visit, she happened to be there alongside our World Superyacht Award winner Mikhail S. Vorontsov, and inspiration struck.

The decision was made to reimagine her completely. To ReCraft™ her into a luxury sailing yacht.

In close collaboration with her original designer, Olivier van Meer, and the owner's team, we spent two years stripping her back and building her up to superyacht standards. Nothing was left untouched: her masts were shortened and relocated, new sails were installed, and her decks were laid in teak.

She left our shipyard in Urk, the Netherlands, and headed straight to the Scarlet Sails festival in St. Petersburg, where she played the leading role.

One of the most talked about yachts of 2026 is a ReCraft™

Bravado, the 45m Northern European motor yacht completely reimagined at Royal Balk Shipyard in 2016, is back in the spotlight as the star of Below Deck Mediterranean Season 10.

When she arrived at Royal Balk Shipyard in Urk, the Netherlands, she was snowy white, with traditional nautical themes throughout. We completely reimagined her for her then-new owner, giving her a chic, contemporary design language that, ten years on, has proven timeless and perfect for the big screen.

Bravado departed the Netherlands sporting a new colour scheme, her hull finished in Majestic Blue and her inboard structure in Shark Grey. Working closely with Bizzozero Cassina Architects – the studio behind the award-winning refit of the iconic Carinthia VII – we completely redefined her interiors, replacing the traditional light veneers with elegant grey panelling, and introducing natural stone, marble, leather and satin throughout. We also revised the sun deck, modernised the wheelhouse, and overhauled the twin engines and generators.

It was an intensive ReCraft™, overseen by owner’s representative Ralph de Joode of RYacht Management.
