ARTIST STATEMENT:Mijn waarneming in de natuur is de geboorte van mijn werk.Speelruimte ontstaat waar deze overgaat in verwondering.

Mijn doel is de waarneming te condenseren.Tot de essentie. De ziel van mijn werk is verstild en nodigt uit tot contemplatie Vanuit waarneming in de natuur wordt mijn werk geboren. Wanneer waarneming overgaat in verwondering ontstaat daar mijn speelruimte. In een aftastend proces reflecteer ik op mijn eigen wezenlijkheid. Zonder vooropgesteld einddoel begin ik te werken en ontstaan verschillende ve

Mijn bijdrage – My contribution:

Voorbĳ mĳn ogen,
het onzichtbare.
Maar over lenzen gebogen,
kĳk ik er dwars doorheen.

Terug,
in de wereld van het zichtbare,
weet ik:
ik ben het zichtbare en onzichtbare,
beiden tegelĳk.

LOST IN PARADISE - Dwalen door de wondere wereld van botanische microscopie.

Waarneming in de natuur is de geboorte van mijn werk. Speelruimte ontstaat daar, waar deze overgaat in verwondering.
Onderdeel van mijn kunstpraktijk is botanische microscopie. Het heeft een verbindende functie en brengt me nog dichter bij het ervaren van de essentie: The Poetry of Things.
Botanische microscopie is bovenal een voortdurend verwonderen. Een vorm van dieptereizen door doolhoven van cellen en structuren. Wandelend door verschillende vergrotingen en draaiend aan een wieltje, verplaatst mijn blik zich in een betoverende wereld. Een poëtische en fascinerende ervaring. Een ontdekkingsreis. Planetair soms. Stardust. We zijn het allemaal.

LOST IN PARADISE – Wandering through the wondrous world of botanical microscopy.
Observation of nature is the genesis of my work. A space for play emerges where that observation transforms into a sense of wonder.
Botanical microscopy is an integral part of my artistic practice. It serves to connect, bringing me even closer to experiencing the essence: *The Poetry of Things*.
Above all, botanical microscopy is a state of constant wonder—a journey into the depths, navigating labyrinths of cells and structures. As I shift between magnifications and turn the dial, my gaze drifts into an enchanting world. It is a poetic and fascinating experience. A voyage of discovery. At times, it feels planetary. Stardust. We are all made of it.

MIJN BEUK - PORTRET For English, scroll down.

De boom is zo majestueus, zo groot(s), dat hij niet in één beeld te vatten is. Ongemerkt ontstonden in de loop van de tijd expressies van fragmenten. Ik kom tot het besef dat het portretteren van iets of iemand een proces is. Niet één moment in de tijd maar vanuit tal van aspecten, perspectieven, details, etc. Tal van ontmoetingen. Mijmeringen. Het paneeltje dat ik schilderde is klein, 13 x 26 cm. In olieverf. Het laat de huid van mijn beuk zien en voelen. Je ziet sporen van ‘Gewoon Purperschaaltje’, een gangbare korstmos in de duinen. De kleur van de bast verandert voortdurend. Donkerder bij vocht, glanzend bij regen. Soms met de groene gloed van algen, mossen. Maar doorgaans glad. Zoals je een dier een klopje op de flanken geeft, zo groet ik de boom ook. Een mooi wezen, dat is hij.

MY BEECH - PORTRAIT
The tree is so majestic, so grand, that it cannot be captured in a single image. Over time, expressions of fragments emerged unnoticed. I am coming to the realization that portraying something or someone is a process. Not a single moment in time, but from numerous aspects, perspectives, details, etc. Numerous encounters. Musings. The panel I painted is small, 13 x 26 cm. In oil paint. It shows and lets you feel the skin of my beech. You can see traces of 'Purple Scale', a common lichen in the dunes. The colour of the bark changes constantly. Darker when wet, glossy in the rain. Sometimes with the green glow of algae and mosses. But usually smooth. Just as you give an animal a pat on the flanks, so I greet the tree. A beautiful creature, that he is. Lies Bakker

LENTESALON bij KADMIUM, Delft - for English, scroll down.

De Lentesalon bij Kadmium Delft opent op zaterdag 4 april om 15.00 uur en is te bezoeken tot en met 10 mei. Woensdag t/m zondag van 12.00 tot 17.00 uur, St. Agathaplein 4. Er zullen twee aquarellen van mij te zien zijn: de solitaire, uitgebloeide, paardenbloem en de kropaar die zijn armen spreid voor een warm welkom. 60 kunstenaars nemen deel. Er is veel moois te zien! Ook vindt in het weekend van 11 en 12 april de Delftse Atelierroute plaats waarvan KADMIUM het startpunt is. Het is zeker de moeite waard om kunstenaars in de oude binnenstad te bezoeken. En op de flyer een mooi beeld van Monique Roodenburg!

The spring salon at KADMIUM in Delft opens on Saturday, April 4 at 3:00 PM and can be visited through May 10. Wednesday through Sunday from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, St. Agathaplein 4. Two of my watercolours will be on display: the solitary, spent dandelion and the crested wheatgrass spreading its arms for a warm welcome. 60 artists are participating. There is much beauty to see! The Delft Studio Route also takes place on the weekend of April 11 and 12, with KADMIUM as the starting point. It is certainly worthwhile to visit artists in the old city center.

De opening van ENTREE bij de Haagse Kunstkring was hartverwarmend. Vrienden en familie, dankjewel!! Een fotocollage van sprekers en muziek. En het is nog niet afgelopen: tot en met zondag 1 maart is het werk van 14 nieuwe kunstenaars in de Haagse Kunstkring, Denneweg 64, te zien.

The opening of ENTREE at the Haagse Kunstkring was heartwarming. Friends and family, thank you!! A photo gallery of speakers and music. And it's not over yet: until Sunday, March 1st, the work of 14 new artists can be seen at the Haagse Kunstkring, Denneweg 64.

'KERSVERS', zo heet de exposite van de zeven nieuwe leden van galerie Arti Galerie Arti-Shock. En daar ben ik er een van! Mijn werk is daar tot 15 januari te zien. Schoolstraat 26 in Rijswijk. Komende zondag 4 januari, 15.00, is de opening en nieuwjaarsreceptie. Wees welkom en begin 2026 op een inspirerende, kunstzinnige manier. Hier krijg je energie van!

De Kleine kerstboom - For English, scroll down.

Dit jaar is mijn bonsai-familie gegroeid met deze kleine taxus. Ik heb hem voorzichtig uitgegraven om de wortels onder de microscoop te kunnen bekijken. Ze waren licht van kleur, lang en nog niet erg houtachtig. Dit heeft waarschijnlijk te maken met de – vruchtbare – standplaats. Het is een zaailing uit de Horsten in Wassenaar. Nadat hij een tijdje in water had gestaan, als model had gediend voor een botanische aquarel en mij vervolgens van microscopische preparaten had voorzien, heeft hij de rest van de zomer als ontluikende bonsai in mijn tuin doorgebracht. Toen ik hem naast de aquarel fotografeerde, zag ik een optimistische persoonlijkheid. Dat belooft veel goeds! De eerste snoei zal volgend jaar plaatsvinden :).

The Little Christmas Tree

This year, my bonsai family has grown with this small yew. I carefully dug it up to examine the roots under the microscope. They were light-coloured, long, and not very woody yet. This is probably due to the – fertile – location. It's a seedling from the Horsten in Wassenaar. After it had been submerged in water for a while, served as a model for a botanical watercolour, and then provided me with microscopic slides, it spent the rest of the summer as a bonsai in my garden. When I photographed it next to the watercolour, I saw an optimistic personality. That bodes well! The first pruning will take place next year :).

HIKARU DORODANGO For English scroll down.
Dit jaar verkende ik de bodem rond een grote beuk in Meijendel (Mijn Beuk). Ik verzamelde aarde direct onder de boom, iets lager langs het pad en nog verder naar beneden via een tra. Van deze aarde, grond, maakte ik Hikaru Dorodango's, Japanse mudballs. Bij sommige ervan mengde ik lake pigment dat ik maakte van beukenblad en beukennapjes door de buitenste schil. Mijn inspiratie voor het maken van deze ballen kreeg ik uit een boekje dat Bruce Gardner schreef .Thanks Bruce!

This year, I explored the soil around a large beech tree in Meijendel (Mijn Beuk). I collected soil directly beneath the tree, a little lower along the path, and even further down via a traverse. From this soil, I made Hakuri Dorodangos, Japanese mudballs. For some of them, I mixed lake pigment made from beech leaves and beech cups into the outer skin. The inspiration to make these balls I got from a little book that Bruce Gardner wrote, Thank you Bruce!

De jaarlijkse expositie KunstKado gaat weer van start bij galerie Arti Shock.
Galerie Arti Shock in het oude centrum van Rijswijk toont vanaf zaterdag 29 november de jaarlijkse KunstKado expositie. Bezoekers kunnen tot 24 december terecht voor betaalbare, kleine kunstwerken als cadeau voor de kerst.
De expositie biedt een laagdrempelige manier om originele kunst in huis te halen of iemand te verrassen met iets bijzonders. Ook van mij is er klein werk te vinden. Er hangt een aantal aquarellen uit de serie ‘ABOUT MOODS’- MOOD OF THE DAY.
Galerie Arti Shock bevindt zich aan Schoolstraat 26, op de hoek met de Kerkstraat in Oud Rijswijk. De expositie is geopend op woensdag tot en met vrijdag van 13.00 tot 17.00 uur, zaterdag van 11.00 tot 16.00 uur en zondag van 14.00 tot 17.00 uur.

The annual KunstKado exhibition is back at Arti Shock gallery.
Arti Shock gallery in the historic center of Rijswijk is presenting its annual KunstKado exhibition starting Saturday, November 29th. Visitors can find affordable, small artworks as gifts for Sinterklaas or Christmas until December 24th.
The exhibition offers an accessible way to acquire original art for your home or surprise someone with something special. I'll also be exhibiting some of my own small works. A number of small watercolors from the "ABOUT MOODS" - MOOD OF THE DAY series are on display.
Arti Shock gallery is located at Schoolstraat 26, on the corner of Kerkstraat in Old Rijswijk. The exhibition is open Wednesday through Friday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Saturday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Sunday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM
