Turns out you don’t need to rescue a princess, defeat a dragon or wear uncomfortable medieval underwear to qualify as a hero.

You just need to be human.

Which, frankly, is exhausting enough.

And that’s what my new creative adventure, The Artist’s Odyssey, is all about.

We set sail November 1. 🚀

I think I’ve been feeling a little Weltschmerz lately. It’s a German word for that sadness you sometimes feel about the world.

The other day, I was driving through a beautiful landscape at sunset, and I remember thinking: we actually live in paradise. What an extraordinary world we get to be part of.

And maybe that’s exactly why it matters so much what we do with it.

Because even when the world feels complicated, overwhelming or completely upside down, I believe there’s so much we CAN do.

We can keep listening to our own voices. Keep following our curiosity. Keep questioning things. Keep our minds open. Have conversations with people who see the world differently. Make connections. Stay kind. Stay curious.

And CREATE.

Not because making beautiful things will magically solve everything. But because creativity is one of the most wonderful powers we have as human beings.

We can imagine things that don't exist yet. We can turn ideas into something real. We can bring a little more beauty, meaning, humour, colour and humanity into the world.

And we don't have to be artists to do that. We're all creators, in a thousand different ways. And I think that's something worth celebrating. 🤍

INVISIBLE WOMEN

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by the way women have been silenced, suppressed and overlooked throughout history. And how, in many many parts of the world, they still are.

Women who were never allowed to make their own choices. Whose talents went unrecognised, whose voices were silenced, whose lives were controlled by men. Women who were punished, abused or even killed for wanting to live on their own terms.

It’s a subject that has fascinated me for most of my life. There are personal reasons for that, too, which I may share another time.

And it’s what inspired my new series of oil paintings: Invisible Women.

The women in these paintings are both visible and invisible.

You can see them, but you can’t quite reach them. They’re beautiful, mysterious, sometimes almost dreamlike. There’s something about them that makes you want to keep looking. To come a little closer. To find out who they are.

But what goes on behind those faces?

What are they thinking? What are they feeling? What have they experienced? What are they hiding? What have they never been allowed to say?

We can look at a woman, admire her beauty, study every detail of her face, and still know absolutely nothing about the world she carries inside her.

I find that endlessly fascinating.

With these paintings, I want to explore that strange space between visibility and invisibility. Between what we see on the outside and everything that remains hidden underneath.

I want you to look at these women. To be drawn to their beauty, their mystery, their presence. And then, perhaps, to start wondering about the person behind the face.

Because being visible doesn’t necessarily mean being seen.

And I think there’s a world of difference between being looked at and being truly seen.

More soon.

There was a time when I didn’t want to get out of bed anymore.

Two small children.
An enormous amount of grief.
PTSD.

Yes.
Really.

It happened after my divorce.

And the strange thing is: no one really talks about what a divorce can do to you. How deeply it can shake you. How you can lose not only a marriage, but parts of yourself along the way.

I’ve been writing my book for almost two years now. And honestly, it has been a birth in every possible sense of the word.

I write a lot about creativity, of course. ❤️ About its healing power. About making things when life has broken something inside you.

But I also write about the deep, dark valleys I walked through.

And sharing that part with the world feels incredibly vulnerable. 🤍

But then I think: what do women really gain from only seeing other women who are polished and shining and seemingly moving through life without any s**t?

The women who have meant the most to me were the ones who rose from their own ashes.

The women who carried their scars with them and kept going.

Strong women who didn’t hide those scars beneath a layer of Botox.
Figuratively speaking. ;)

So.
That’s a tiny glimpse behind the curtain.

There’s more to come.

And this book keeps growing.
And growing.

It has been messy. Painful. Beautiful. A hell of a birth.

But slowly, it’s becoming a flower.

And I already know I’m going to be incredibly proud of it.
