Billytown gratefully presents it's current Artist in Residence:

Laura De Jaeger (1995) is an artist based between Belgium and Estonia. Her practice approaches objects and sites through rest, pausing, and boredom. She works with found objects, photo, video, and writing, often in an installative way. De Jaeger holds an MA in fine arts from LUCA School of Arts and an MA in cultural studies (KU Leuven). Her work has been exhibited in Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Germany and Serbia. Alongside her practice, she writes, teaches at the Estonian Academy of Arts, and guides through exhibitions in WIELS.

This residency is supported by Flanders State of the Art and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.

Deze residentie wordt ondersteund door Flanders State of the Art en Cultural Endowment of Estonia.

We look back on a wonderful two-day exhibition by our great former Artists in Residence, Ida Guibert () and François Feutrie (François Feutrie).

Billytown would like to wholeheartedly thank Ida and François for their fruitful residency at Billytown and for the valuable exchange between Atelier Vivarium and Billytown.

We look back on a great residency and thank you for your beautiful exhibition.

Ida Guibert () and François Feutrie (François Feutrie) exchanged their studios in Rennes, France, with Billytown studio members Yukari Nakamichi and Ah Wei Ya (Vincent Wong), who developed their work at Atelier Vivarium during the same period in Rennes. Ida and François spent this residency working on the Dutch landscape. Ida works on the relationship between technology and non-native plants in preservation systems, while François is developing the project Alluvium, drawing parallels between hydrology and anatomy, inspired by the marshes at the mouth of the Rhine.
Visitors were invited to see the results of their research during a two-day exhibition. This event was part of the exchange programme "A guest + a host = a ghost" between the artist initiatives Billytown (NL) and Atelier Vivarium (FR), supported by Stroom Den Haag, the French Institute (Paris), the Brittany Region, the French Ministry of Culture (DRAC Bretagne), the Embassy of the Netherlands in France, and the French Institute in the Netherlands.

𝘔𝘪𝘹𝘦𝘥 𝘍𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴
Solo exhibition by Vita Soul Wilmering

In 𝘔𝘪𝘹𝘦𝘥 𝘍𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴, Vita Soul Wilmering (1996) plays with the boundary between documentary and fiction filmmaking. Through this particular mode of storytelling—at times playful, at times disorienting—she offers a through-line of memory and present experiences; of imagination and raw intimacy; of reminiscing and re-enactment. 𝘔𝘪𝘹𝘦𝘥 𝘍𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 approaches entangled relationships (the familial, romantic, estranged and friendly) with honesty—investigating loss and absence, as well as family history, love and affection.

For this exhibition, Vita Soul Wilmering has created a spatial collage of shifting film scenes, centred around themes of intimacy, memory and re-enactment. The six-channel video installation features fragments of the artist’s earlier films, current work in progress, and never-before-shown footage from Wilmering’s own archive. 𝘔𝘪𝘹𝘦𝘥 𝘍𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 includes fragments from the films (un)scripted (2024), The failed holiday: episode 10 (2021), Spiegl (2021), Insomnia (2026), Dear Athanase (in progress) and Zonder (2014).
