This week, we welcome curator and artist-researcher Charles Rouleau , coordinator of Casino Display Luxembourg (presentating online), and spatial designer Lieven Poutsma from Observatorium , a public art and place-making practice.

After Graduation Session 1/3 “Choices”

Join us for a session with furniture designer Nikolai Aarre (Amsterdam) and spatial designers WEINBENAMI (Antwerp).
They will share insights into their paths after graduation, including developing their work, building networks, participating in events, and pursuing master studies at DAE and RCA.
Each guest will give a short presentation of ~20 minutes followed by a Q&A.

Last Friday all IAFD Cohabitation students and tutors came together for a great Common Table dinner hosted by all 2nd year students. Together the 2nd years prepared food and created prompts for going on a communal walk through the Hague. We went outside to forage elements which we made into material compositions. These materials became the scenography for the festivities. As a form of care, everyone would ask the person sitting across from them what they would like to eat, to then prepare a plate for them.

Lastly, we said thank you and a sweet goodbye to Harold Linker who has been teaching the hand drawing course for the past 14 years.

What an evening! The VOS Method has been officially launched. With more than 250 people attending the event, we shared an unforgettable moment celebrating the teachings of Ellen Vos. Thank you to everyone who joined us and supported this publication. The books sold out during the launch, but they can still be ordered from website.

During this festive moment, second-year IAFD students will present their final designs for the award and six honorary statements to representatives from the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), including Esther van Dijk – Director Emancipation and Director Gender & LGBTI equality at the OCW. From 16:00, the exhibition will open to the public, accompanied by drinks.

𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 / 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫: 𝐅𝐥𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦
The interactive exhibition is titled ‘Embody / Empower: Fluidity in Form’. Designed collaboratively and in small groups, seven unique art pieces represent key values such as fluidity, strength, resilience, and freedom. Students established these values to represent the challenges and achievements of the LGBTQIA+ community. Each art piece is also designed with consideration towards the environment, embodying principles of circularity, thoughtful use of materials and regeneration.

𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐊𝐀𝐁𝐊 𝐱 𝐎𝐂𝐖: 𝐉𝐨𝐬 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐣𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔
For the fifth time, the IAFD department is collaborating with the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) to design the Jos Brinkprijs. Second-year students developed one award design for the Jos Brink Prijs 2026 and six honorary statements. These honorary statements will be given to all nominees during the award ceremony, taking place next year, as a sustainable alternative to flowers. The design of the main award combines core themes of the honorary statements — empathy, collectivity, infinity, fluidity, embrace and freedom. They inform a distinctive design in which community participation plays a central role, both in the creative process and in the final outcome.

First-year IAFD students worked in the course 𝗜𝗔𝗙𝗗𝟭 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 on architectural constructions made from second-hand materials. Based on the qualities and limitations of the pre-selected materials (rubberwood round sticks, thermally treated spruce wood, and three-layer PET felt), the students created connections between the various materials and incorporated them into spatial constructions.
Building Structures was part of the trimester Mine, where the development of a critical perspective on material use was central. In addition to Building Structures, students worked on writing a material biography and mapped the city of The Hague as a potential source of raw materials. The course was guided by IAFD tutors Maarten Kolk and Minnari Lee.
