Second time at the Bierum Jaarmarkt, and once again I really enjoyed the atmosphere.

For me, markets are about more than selling — it’s the conversations, meeting new people, and giving them the chance to see and feel my work up close.

That connection is what makes every market worth it. 💚

Back at the Bierum Jaarmarkt for the second time — and I think this market is becoming one of my favorites.

I love the atmosphere of the village, the energy of the market, and especially the conversations around my work.

Markets give people the chance to see the wood up close, touch the pieces, ask questions and hear the stories behind them. For me, that connection is valuable no matter how busy the day is.

Wood is meant to be experienced, not just seen through a screen. 💚

This piece of cherry wood was almost firewood.

I found it at a timber yard in Slochteren, just as they were cutting the wood down for firewood. I loved the piece, bought the whole log, and brought it back to my workshop.

This vessel is about 26 cm tall × 22 cm wide, keeping part of the natural edge. After turning and hollowing it, I burned the surface and repaired one of the cracks with copper.

I’m really happy I could save this piece and give the wood a second life.

Now I’m curious — burned or natural? Which one would you choose? 👇

I think I’ve reached the point where changing chuck jaws is getting old. 😅

I’m currently using an Talon, with 3237 Dovetail Jaws and 3239 Spigot Jaws among my setups.

I really like the Talon, but for my larger and heavier pieces I’d like to add a second, more heavy-duty chuck to the workshop — and ideally stop swapping jaws all the time. 😂

What chuck would you recommend for bigger work? I’d love to hear what you’re using. 👇

Working on this large cherry vessel, around 30 cm tall. 🍒

Still plenty of hollowing and finishing to do, but I’m already loving the shape — and the smell of fresh cherry is something else.

Also, the more I use the hollowing tool, the more I like it. This thing can seriously remove some wood. 😅
