Today we’re highlighting the triptych ‘Spring, Autumn, Winter’ by Hanne van der Woude, part of our Winter Salon WHEN FLOWERS SLEEP ❄️

For fifteen years Hanne van der Woude shared life’s joys and sorrows with an older married artist couple and a brother. People who never lost touch with their creativity or non-conformist disposition. Van der Woude is focusing on Emmy Eerdmans (1931–2024), an old artist who lives in an old school building in the Betuwe. Two central elements of Emmy’s personality are an inexhaustible admiration for nature and the urge to collect. Van der Woude uses photography, film and documents such as sketchbooks and notebooks in order to show Emmy’s unique but also very familiar world.

We warmly invite you to experience the works in person, or reach out via DM or email. More information can be found in the online catalogue via our link in bio 🔗

This morning we’re giving a shoutout to the stunning work of Elmar Janse & Merel Klomp ❄️✨

The idea for their long-term series ‘The Glacier Project’ emerged in 2018, when they witnessed a vast slab of ice breaking away from the edge of a glacier; breathtakingly beautiful, yet painfully finite. Since then, they have travelled across Europe, from France and Norway to Iceland, tracing the slow transformation of ice into water, and landscape into memory.

Their diptych ‘Outside In / Inside Out’ captures the ephemeral beauty of Iceland’s glaciers. Both works are presented as archival pigment prints mounted on dibond, framed in smoked oak. The diptych is available in an edition of 8 + 2 AP, with edition 3 currently available.

Come see these beautiful works in the gallery this weekend, or explore them in our online catalogue via the link in bio 🔗

Today we’d love to shine a light on four artists from our current groupshow WHEN FLOWERS SLEEP; each offering a distinct way of seeing, sensing, and slowing down the world around us 🔥

During her winter stay in northern Norway, Noor van der Wal created ‘First signs of bright sunlight, February 5th, 2024’, capturing the very first sunrays returning after 28 days of darkness. Shown as the original 4×5” positive film in a small lightbox, the moment feels suspended, a quiet breath of light reappearing after a long absence.

With her work ‘mirror mirror #4’, Annie Beugel lets water and sky merge into an in-between space where perception and memory drift together. The piece invites a slower kind of looking, an experience rather than an image, beautifully presented in a natural wooden floater frame.

In ‘Experienced’, Karin van de Laar uses double exposure to hold a simple truth: “No flowers grow without rain and no human grows without pain. It’s not perfect, but it’s come a long way.” Shown in a Mansonia float frame, the work carries both softness and resilience.

For ‘Decay of Matter’, Katia Motylova-Babinska irradiated steppe flowers directly on film, allowing destruction to mark the emulsion itself. The resulting unique work, framed in white wood, embodies ecological fragility, turning the photographic surface into a site where memory and material slowly transform.

Today we’d love to highlight the beautiful work of Rick van der Klooster. His photobook Between the Mountain and the River, released earlier this year, has been selected by as one of the Top 10 Best Photobooks of 2025. We’re proud to be showing his new work as part of our Winter Salon WHEN FLOWERS SLEEP ❄️✨

Diptych
The Shimmer / Blue Eyed Red Horse
From Perfect Blue, 2025
Edition of 10

Far away, deep within. A silhouette in the far distance, its contours distorted, their colours faded. Yet, I feel the hot breath in my neck. The end of everything, the beginning of something unknown. ‘Perfect Blue’ is a work of colourful photographs depicting a world that is breaking apart due to human arrogance, an exploration of living in a dying world.

We invite you to experience the work in person, or reach out via DM or email. You can also find more information in our online catalog through the link in bio 🔗

Part of our current exhibition WHEN FLOWERS SLEEP is the work of presenting his series Krabbens Drøm 🦀

Krabbens Drøm is the visualization of the dreams of a crab that lives along the shore and longs to live on land. The photographs were made along the Norwegian coast using a pinhole camera. Each image is mounted in a crab’s back shield and protected by epoxy resin. All pieces are unique objects: each one slightly different in form, texture and tone.

We currently have eight unique pieces from Krabbens Drøm on view at Ballon Rouge. Visitors and collectors are welcome to choose their personal favourite.

Part of our current exhibition WHEN FLOWERS SLEEP is the work of , whose photographs bring softness and intimacy into a world that rarely slows down. After his ME/CFS diagnosis, his attention shifted to quiet moments that often go unnoticed, details that reveal themselves when we take the time to truly look.

On view are works from NESTED, a tender reflection on loss, the search for warmth and protection, and finding a new rhythm in the silence that follows. Also on view is WANDER, made during small detours from familiar paths, where limited energy meets the urge to explore, and even the smallest deviation brings unexpected beauty 🔍🍂

Seven works by Twan are currently on view at Ballon Rouge. Check the online catalog for more info via the link in our bio 🔗
