Making awesome music is one thing, but what if you want to make a profession out of your hobby?

During the second year of our Full Course, we go beyond production and focus on the business side of being an artist. From branding and marketing to artist development, you'll learn how to turn your skills into a sustainable career.

One of the many opportunities is the world of sync licensing. Together with Jordy “GANZ” Saämena, we explore how music is created for advertisements, film and games, and what it takes to work as a composer in these industries.

How do you find clients? How do you approach a creative brief? What does the workflow look like when you're composing on commission? And what skills make you stand out?

Imagine this.

You produce a dance track, a friend or family member records the vocals, and after weeks of producing, mixing and mastering, the track is finally ready for release.

Then they tell you: “Sure, you can release it... for €5,000.”

It sounds unlikely, especially when you're working with someone close to you. Yet situations like this happen more often than you might think.

Who owns the recording? Who owns the lyrics? What rights does a vocalist actually have? And what happens if you never made any agreements beforehand?

These are exactly the kinds of real-world scenarios we discuss during the Music Law lessons in Full Course Year 2. Understanding music rights isn't just for lawyers or major labels. It can save artists, producers and collaborators a lot of stress, money and conflict.

The best solution? Make clear agreements before you start creating.

And if problems arise anyway, it's important to know where you stand.

The first match between the Netherlands and Japan ended in a 2-2 draw. Fittingly, our producers found the same balance during Battle of the Beats: NL vs. Japan Edition.⁠

The sample pack was filled with Dutch and Japanese sounds and participants had just two hours to create an original track. The challenge wasn't simply to use the samples, but to blend two different musical worlds into something entirely new. ⁠

Last night: Kessler masterclass!!

taught us everything about drum & bass. He explained his workflow, but also gave tips and tricks about Ableton. It was perfect day for people wanting to excel in this genre.
