The Mirror Barricade is a social sculpture consisting of silver reflective inflatable cubes that can be assembled within seconds into a barricade; when thrown into the air, the cubes turn the street into a playground.

The poetic and lightweight tools were designed by art-activist group Tools for Action founded by visual artist Bambi van B***n. The tools have been used to protest a Neo-Nazi march in Dortmund together with the Theater of Dortmund in 2016. In so-called Barricade Ballets, choreographic formations for collectivity and disobedience were rehearsed with more then two hundred fifty participants that were enacted on the day of protest.

In 2022 Theatre Rotterdam rebuilt a new edition in the context of Track R.I.O.T. (ready in order to) of Alida Dors: inflatable barricades from gold, turning the audience into active participants; practising self-organisation and direct action to conjure a shimmering future for all.

"The most dangerous thing is silence" - Juli Salamanca Cortes

This podcast by René Boer and Charlie Clemoes from Failed Architecture was recorded just after our last , when we did a collective dance through the Red light district and reflected about our swarming - situations, the difference and similarity on the conditions of s*x work in Bogotá and Amsterdam, the idea of silence as a form of silencing and social cleaning happening in Amsterdam and Bogotá. Contributions also by Floor, me and Patri Roa Johansen from Papaya Kuir.
+++ Tonight at 9.00 pm sharp we start our 3rd , this time accompanied by MC Mustaj! +++

Tools for Action + Floor is looking for volunteer ravers / q***r souls for the new project RÆV REHEARSAL. We will organize a series of pop-up raves in the streets of Rotterdam from Mid-June onwards. The idea is to rehearse collective movement, so we can become a dancing radiating swarm that moves through the city. Interested? Please find here more info!

Yesterday took place! As a dancing swarm we moved through the streets of the Red Light District accompanied by latino beats ("the police is gonorrhea") by DJ Juli Salamanca Cortes from the Red Comunitaria Trans, the transgender s*xworkers organisation from Bogotá. The intent of the event was to bring back life to the Red Light district.

In our podcast after talk, Juli Salamanca draws parallels between the situation of s*x work in Bogotá and Amsterdam. “The silence of the pandemic is dangerous. They want to silence us. To do a social cleansing... to erase the identities of s*xworkers, trans people, people of color.” Swarming the Red Light (with sound) was the second experiment in a series of situations. This intervention was organised by Failed Architecture in collaboration with Tools for Action + Floor. DJing by Juli Salamanca Cortes and assisted by fabulous Molta. We were also accompanied by Patri Roa Johansen and others of Papaya Kuir!

As this felt incredibly liberating and good, you can imagine this is only the beginning. Stay tuned and come dance with us soon!
