I'm never really up to date on what's trending right now. And I'm already falling behind, because the song I came across yesterday is already three years old. But as far as I'm concerned, it is surprising. A sort of Bossa Nova Pop. It's by the Icelandic LAUFEY Lín Bing Jónsdóttir.
Of course, a song like that isn't just very popular; it's also musical and really cool to play along with. Have fun!

The song of the week to play along is from the soundtrack of the film 'Hatari'. The music is composed by Henri Mancini. You probably know him best for the Pink Panter tune, but he made manby beautiful compositions. I used to collect his filmscores om vinyl and this Baby Elephant Walk song is the one that always made me instantly cheerful. To play along with the chords is not difficult at all. Hoe fantastisch!! De PETRONELLA'S in de Ukulele Play Along!!

Ooit, lang geleden op de Parade, kwamen de Petronella's, uit de Grandioze Door Draai Show van Joop van den Zoon tot bloei. Een setje kekke wijven met het lied 'Kus me honey'.

Het is niet een heel moeilijk lied maar het staat in een niet hele standaard toonsoort. In Eb, met toch wel het meest culinaire akkoord van deze week: de Bb 7 #5. De naam is moeilijker dan de greep die er bij hoort. Ga gauw kijken en probeer hem eens mee te spelen dan leer je vast weer wat onbekende akkoorden bij.

Juist in de zomer is het lekker om spaantalige liedjes te spelen. Zodoende kwam ik op Besamé Mucho. Het is het meest opgenomen en gecoverde spaanstalige nummer ooit. Een bolero song geschreven 1932 door Mexicaanse pianiste en songschrijfster Consuelo Velázquez. Dit hier is een hele bekende versie van de zangeres Gigliola Cinquetti samen met Trio Los Panchos uit 1968. Als je de akkoorden van dit liedje eenmaal kent zit het meteen in je genen en kun je voortaan alle versie zo meespelen. Hoe fijn is dat?!

Wim T Schippers is er niet meer, maar hij heeft zoveel leuke dingen achtergelaten. Bv Ron Flon Flon met Jacques Plafond. Ik heb daar vroeger vaak naar geluisterd. Met de meest geniale jingles die over de top uitgekauwd werden tot complete nummers. Als eerbetoon heb ik zo'n jingle in de Ukulele Play Along gezet en kun je die helemaal meespelen. De onderwerpen waren op zichzelf natuurlijk al geniaal, zoals hier Achterstallig Post, maar de muzikale invulling van alle liedjes was dat zeker ook. Dus veel plezier met meespelen!

Zoals sommige mensen de rouwadvertenties nakijken, zo check ik dan wel eens welke artiesten er recentelijk overleden zijn. En zo stuitte ik op bassist en songwriter Tony Wilson van Hot Chocolate. Samen met zanger Errol Brown schreef hij het niet al te vrolijke nummer 'Emma'. Vroeger drongen die engelse teksten nooit zo bij me door, maar nu wel. Hoe dan ook is het wel echt een goed nummer om mee te spelen. Het heeft maar 2 akkoorden en dus kun je je helemaal focussen op het ritme en misschien wel de gitaar-solo's...
