Karin Vermeer Artist

Cobalt & Gold Cherry Blossom — 150×150 cm

This square canvas revisits a composition I first explored a year ago — the same cherry blossom photograph, now reinterpreted at a larger scale and with greater depth.

The work draws direct inspiration from Yves Klein: his iconic ultramarine blue and the commanding way he used gold. The photograph was digitally reworked, mounted on canvas, and built up in multiple layers of gel medium to create rich texture and dimension.

The sky was painted in antique gold chrome paint. The blossom was sculpted with oil sticks — a medium I made myself specifically for this piece: oil paint and beeswax, cast in silicone moulds and mixed to the exact palette of this work.

The painting sits in a natural wood frame with a cobalt blue interior that precisely matches the sides of the canvas. Framed dimensions: 154×154×6 cm.

Interested? Send a DM or email. I am happy to discuss the work in more detail and can provide a scaled in-situ visualisation on request.

Acquiring art is also about imagining it in your space. ✨
When my studio fills up with new work, I place my paintings digitally into interiors — not just to see the pieces fresh, but to understand how they transform a room. How colour shifts with light. How a painting becomes part of a home.
These images are an invitation to see my work the way a collector does — already there, already yours.
Interested in a piece? Feel free to reach out. 🖼️

Autumn Chestnut

A work where digital origin and physical matter converge.

This painting begins with a photograph I took, digitally manipulated and reconstructed before taking on its physical form on canvas. Layer by layer, texture is built using gel medium, followed by a chrome surface that captures and reflects light. Oil paint and custom-made oil sticks — each tone developed specifically for this piece — then introduce a final tactile dimension.

The result exists in tension between control and chance, reflection and depth. As the light shifts and your perspective changes, new layers of the work reveal themselves.

🗓 Saturday May 9 & Sunday May 10
🕛 12:00 – 17:00
📍 Borgerstraat 24, Rotterdam

During GO West, the Borgerstraat Studios open their doors.

Inside a former school building in Rotterdam, more than twenty artists work in their studios — from painting and photography to ceramics, performance, multimedia, and design. A self-organised collective in constant motion.

On May 9 & 10, 2026 (12:00–17:00), the building transforms into an open space filled with art, also featuring guest artists exhibiting on the ground floor, the first floor, and in the hallways.

GO West brings all of Delfshaven to life with dozens of locations — from studios to community spaces and homes — all free to visit across neighbourhoods such as Oud Delfshaven, Bospolder, Tussendijken, Spangen, Middelland, Nieuwe Westen, Coolhaveneiland, and Schiemond.

I will also open my studio (Borgerstraat studio 116) and present a selection of new works from my Illuminated Sky series, which I have been passionately developing over the past 1.5 years.

Deconstructed Yellow & Gold

Last February, I visited the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris to see the exhibition of Gerhard Richter — an artist who continues to be a significant source of inspiration to me through his investigative approach and the wide range of styles he has mastered, from figuration to abstraction.

During the visit, I captured many details. Back in my studio, I chose to focus on a fragment of his abstract work as a point of departure for this piece. I began experimenting digitally, layering and pressing details of his work together with one of my Magnolia photographs in Photoshop.

I was particularly drawn to the yellow tones, which led me to combine them with gold, while exploring a sense of movement reminiscent of Richter’s work.

The piece is created on a 150 × 150 cm aluminium 3D linen canvas and presented in a custom-made 6 cm deep floating frame in a subtle oak tone with a taupe interior — softening the gold and grounding the work.

Materials include a digitally manipulated print, gel medium, oil paint, handmade oil sticks, chrome paint, and a matte UV-protective varnish.

The work is currently still drying, but inquiries and requests can already be made

Framed size 154x154x6cm.

🌸 Awakening Magnolia 🌸

This piece is inspired by the magnolia in my garden, just as it begins to awaken in early spring. The sky is painted with bronze palladium chrome paint for a subtle metallic shimmer.

For the first time, I worked with handmade oil sticks (oil paint + beeswax) — a satisfying process that allowed me to achieve colours that perfectly matched my vision.

The base is digitally manipulated photography mounted on canvas, enhanced with gel medium for texture and relief, and finished with oil paint and my handmade oil sticks. The combination gives depth and life to the surface.

The sides are painted in a warm orange-rose tone, and the piece is framed in a dark brown floating frame that echoes the side colours.

📏 Size: 120 × 120 cm (unframed) | 124 × 124 × 6 cm (framed)

A dialogue between nature, photography, and material experimentation — observation and process captured in one piece.

This year started in a truly wonderful way for me. My largest work, Keri Scots Pine (180 x 180 cm) from my new series, was sold earlier this year through Sille Gallery and has since found a beautiful home where it truly comes into its own.

I’m excited to share that several of my new works will be on view during the spring exhibition at Sille Gallery.

In the spring exhibition Lentelicht, a selection of artists takes the spotlight. Alongside the gallery’s permanent collection, a number of artists are highlighted, including Jan Wils, Geeske van de Molengraft, Saskia Hoeboer, Hans Withoos, Marly Freij, Barend Houtsmuller, Kaat Stieber, Merlijn van de Sande, Karin Vermeer, Samuel Dejong, Hans Leijerzapf, Hannes Verhoeven, Angelo Moyano, and Tonny de Brouwer. Their works are given a special place within the exhibition.

Together, the works create a rich and diverse presentation in which craftsmanship, imagination, and material exploration take center stage. Each artist brings a unique visual language and perspective, resulting in a compelling dialogue between painting, wall objects, figuration, abstraction, and sculptural forms.

Warm welcome, art lover! The gallery will be open on Sunday, March 22, from 12:00 to 17:00 at Sille Gallery. 💜💛

When my entire studio is filled with new work, it can sometimes be challenging to see the individual pieces clearly. Shelves full of paint and oil pastels, covered walls and floors with a lot of colour, brushes, rollers, and packing materials everywhere — it can be very overwhelming and distract from the paintings themselves. I find it very helpful to play digitally with interiors that appeal to me, to see my works within that environment. This often results in images like these digital manipulations.

And some of these paintings have already found real homes! ☺️
