In early January, the murals in the stairwells of the Langeveld Building at , designed by .emmerich was festively opened.

About the mural

Emmerich: “The title ‘Twisting Thriving Topographies’ refers to the rhythmic and organic movement in the murals, in which lines and motifs intertwine, twist up and down, and flow through the space. Each floor and stairwell forms, as it were, an island or energy field with its own character.
‘Twisting’ refers to the dynamics and circulation of forms, “Thriving” to growth, vitality and the lively character of the compositions. “Topographies” emphasizes the spatial structure, as if it were a landscape that can be explored both visually and conceptually.
The work combines historical and cultural references, such as Art Deco and Indonesian batik, and invites an experience that is both monumental and intimate, carrying the viewer away with its rhythm and colour.”
After its official opening, the mural will be part of EUR’s exceptional art collection.

The production was handled by Murals Inc. Agency. The team, led by .noordeman delivered an outstanding performance. Thanks .noordeman and as well the artist herself .emmerich.

It was a great adventure, and we warmly thank a number of those directly involved; .eur and 🙏

✨Launching The M‑Collection ✨

The M-Collection is a large-scale group exhibition held in the presentation space of . It features studio works by over 85 muralists from the Netherlands and beyond, all part of the Murals Inc. roster, showcasing a wide range of styles, backgrounds, and approaches to mural painting.

A highlight of the exhibition is the inclusion of three large-scale, site-responsive murals, each created by a different artist with a distinct conceptual and stylistic approach. These murals act as structural anchors: independent in character, yet forming a dynamic dialogue with the surrounding studio works, which are also available for purchase.

During — and in the five months that follow — the M-Collection presents a carefully curated overview of studio work by artists specializing in mural art. The exhibition provides insight into a broad international network of artists active in public, semi-public, and private spaces.

We did it!
The first mural designed by .emmerich in one of the two five-story stairwells of the Langeveld building on the Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam campus is now complete. It was a tremendous undertaking, but the top team from Murals Inc., represented by and under the project management of .noordeman and together with Hadassah herself, succeeded in completing it within the allotted three-week period. The result exceeds all expectations.

Next, the second stairwell will be prepared over the course of a week to ensure a safe and optimal working environment, allowing work on mural number two to begin.

Hadassah’s working method, which the team needed to master:
Since 2016, Hadassah Emmerich has been working with a distinctive painting technique that involves creating ink prints on canvas, paper, or walls using stencils cut from floor vinyl. This printing method allows the personal handwriting to recede into the background, giving the painterly gesture a more mechanical and detached character, while at the same time imposing a specific visual language. Yet the process remains playful and layered. Beyond the printed forms, the artist’s hand is still present – visible in the refined depiction of fans and Indonesian batik motifs. By repeating images and patterns, compositions emerge that can be executed in a variety of color schemes.

A big thank you to some of the staff at who provided invaluable support in navigating the complex challenges of carrying out this project while the building remained fully in use.

And, we would like to thank Anouk Estourgie, who has supervised the project from an important moment onwards and will continue to do so until completion.

After an intensive period of preparation, the team from Murals Inc. began November 1th with the ex*****on of two murals in the stairwells of the Langeveld Building on the campus of

The designs are by .emmerich who is also personally involved in the ex*****on. In close collaboration with her, the team translates her experimental approach into the scale and dynamics of the murals.

The project is being carried out by our team at Murals Inc., led and coordinated by our creative producer .noordeman, together with a carefully selected group of artists chosen from our extensive pool of collaborators to best suit the specific requirements of this project—namely:  and Jelmer Noordeman.

A big thank you to some of the staff at Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam who provided invaluable support in navigating the complex challenges of carrying out this project while the building remained fully in use.

Our special thanks go to Anne Clement van Vugt, Coordinator-Adviser Art Affairs EUR, who invited Murals Inc. in December last year to assist with the preliminary sketch process, from which this follow-up commission arose.

Large-scale murals at EUR

At the end of 2024, initiated the process of creating large-scale murals on the walls of the two stairwells in the Langeveld Building.

Langeveld Building
Under the motto ‘Building new perspectives’, the Executive Board of Erasmus University Rotterdam is investing in a future-proof and sustainable Woudestein campus. As part of this vision, a new multifunctional educational building—the Langeveld Building—was completed in 2022. The six-story building is a model of sustainable and circular construction, featuring innovative technologies, including a revolutionary new ventilation system driven by wind and solar energy.

In addition to lecture halls and educational spaces, the Langeveld Building also houses a lounge area and numerous study spaces, accommodating around 3,000 students from various faculties.

had the honor of supervising the sketch assignments and is very pleased to announce that .emmerich has won the commission and will proceed with the ex*****on. Hadassah has commissioned Murals Inc. to oversee the entire production. We will start next week, and the production will take approximately seven weeks to complete.
