KINO is de nieuwste bioscoop in het hart van Rotterdam, de Gouvernestraat. Een plek die niet alleen filmhistorisch belangrijk is (de geboorte van het IFFR, voormalige onderkomen van LantarenVenster) maar ook centraal staat in de geschiedenis van Rotterdam. [𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗢 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗩𝗼𝗹. 𝟭𝟬 - 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻] 10 freaking years, baby! And what better way to celebrate than with our 10th edition of Boogie Nights? We’re transforming into the ultimate party playground with different areas to explore. As always, our massive screening room, KINO 1, morphs into a full-blown club after 10:00 PM. We’re talking DJs and cinematic visuals lighting up the screen. The bar area will also be transformed into such a visual spectacle that it’ll be hard to decide where to hit the dance floor! Karaoke is back on the big screen in KINO 3, so dust off those vocal cords and get ready to belt out your favorite tunes! It’s our birthday, so you know we’re bringing the treats! [𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗢 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗴𝗲: 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗠𝗲 𝗕𝘆 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗲] We wouldn’t dare present a coming of age retrospective without adding this sun-drenched modern classic that cemented itself as an evergreen in under a decade. A perfect melange of excellent casting (yes, even bitey boy Hammer), exquisite Rohmer-approved summer fashion and simmering first love nostalgia make this an infinitely rewatchable film with, of course [insert suggestive peach joke here]. English language with Dutch subtitles.

[𝗧𝘄𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀: 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝟯] Join us for a Twin Peaks: The Return marathon on 10 & 11 October. Tickets go on sale 15 September at 11 AM. Seventeen hours, written by Lynch as a single film script, and named best film of the decade by Cahiers du Cinéma. We agree that the third season of Twin Peaks is one of the best pieces of narrative filmmaking made in our ten years’ existence and are thrilled to bring this cinematic event to KINO for its first-ever screening in the Netherlands. Kyle MacLachlan gives the performance of his life three times over, whilst all the cast and all we love about Twin Peaks return - joined by marvelous music performances at the end of each episode. Beautiful, enticing and one the most radical things ever broadcast by a television network. On a big screen, with proper sound and no phone within reach, The Return is guaranteed to get under your skin. Damn fine.

[𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗢 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗴𝗲: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝗵𝗶𝘃𝗲] This ethereal masterpiece revolves around an angelic central performance by the then seven year old Ana Torrent, set on the Spanish planes of Castillia in the 1940’s. Little Ana attends a screening of Frankenstein and her sister convinces her the monster from the film survived and might be close by. A frightening notion that lets her imagination get the best of her. We’ve all been there, honestly. The film was shot at the end of Franco’s fascist reign and can be interpreted as a powerful allegory for this dark period but as the best films accomplish, can also be enjoyed entirely without this context, as a poetic story about a child navigating life beyond the confines of her known world.

[𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗢 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗴𝗲: 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝘁] As five female friends are plunged into adulthood after university, their paths seem to quickly diverge as one moves to Seoul and the others remain in their industrial hometown of Incheon. Their struggles are dictated by class but kept together by the communal care of a kitten, as a narrative device to portray their separate struggles. A strong debut from director Jeong Jae-eun, who zeroes in on that strange phase wherein seemingly unshakable foundations of friendship quickly erode and real life (whatever that means) seems to increasingly isolate, ironically exacerbated by the introduction of the mobile phone.
