The first time I encountered this technique was while studying Rauschenberg’s transfer drawings for a test at the Fine Art Academy.
I’ve been obsessed with it since. I love any technique that leaves room for imprevedibility, because I tend to iper control all🙈
With this, I mean the ones that rely on a photoconductor drum.
I know it is possible to get a transfer from an inkjet too, but I didn't like the results 🤓
I find it more intriguing to think in silhouettes lately.
But if you check out my series “PLAY”, for instance, you see that I used a pencil drawing and collage.
This is where you might want to have a brand name from me or something like 1+1=2
The reality is that, depending on where you live, the things I use might not be available. What you can do is search on the internet for “transfer marker”, and easy peasy, you get the new one available in your country.
Years ago, I used a trichloroethylene can from a tool shop. It was cheap and effective. But when I moved to the Netherlands, I quickly learned that trichloroethylene wasn't available, and it took me some time to find the right substitute.
Whatever you use, be sure to ventilate the room and possibly wear gloves and a filtering mask if you are planning to do a big piece.✌️
