So where on earth do I even begin making a sculpture like this? Well, it starts with
leftover materials: the scraps, the remnants, the things that somehow spark the first idea.
From there, shapes and structures start to appear and other materials join in: concrete, porcelain plaster, India ink, stencil ink. Each layer brings its own character, making each sculpture start to develop its own character.

Me trying to explain my tattoo design process to you, and caught myself mansplaining myself while at it. Haha! Wauw.
This process is a special one because it had some transformations and started with a collage which is not always the case. SO this is available flash!! Anyone? Must be big haha.

At Fem La Bru’s beautiful vintage & design pop-up shop, my work ‘Fierce’ was displayed among her carefully curated vintage and design pieces. Just around the corner lived a lovely couple whose tastes in art are usually 'quite different'. But somehow, they had both walked past the shop and thought: “Wow, how cool is this?!” They took a picture and both showed my work to each other.

So they decided to visit the shop together — only to find that Femke had just closed up her pop-up shop. Luckily, they managed to track down her contact details, and everyone was put in touch.

They came by my studio for a fun visit, and later I delivered the painting to their home. Where we basically spent the whole afternoon toasting, chatting and celebrating. I hung 'Fierce' in their home office, and it instantly felt like it belonged there.

I mean… it was made for that space, wasn’t it?!

Shapes and lines, structure and contrast: that’s what drives my work. I never really
plan things; they come alive while I’m making them.
Working with construction materials and found objects, I never quite know what will
happen next. And that’s exactly what makes it so fun!

Finally! It’s time to show you what I’ve been working on the last month. My new sculpture series, “Relics of the Future” Whoohoo!

I made six futuristic models of animals that humanity has driven to extinction. As we
increasingly live in a simulation, I have sculpted a new version of these animals, which I would love to inflate into gigantic, monumental sculptures in public space. Welcome to 'Megafauna 2.0'.

This Saturday, I’m presenting a completely new collection of works called “Relics From the Future” at Gallery Har Hensgens.

It’s a really fun but also quit small gallery, so I decided to take on the challenge of making small sculptures. Let me show you how these futuristic creatures came to life.
