Franzi Goralski | Artist in Residence Rotterdam

Franzi Goralski is a transdisciplinary worker:r artist:in and cultural worker:in. Goralski studied art in Dresden and Amsterdam and works in the field of social issues and spatial concepts. At the heart of Goralski's work are narratives about community, q***r lifestyles, low hierarchy spatial design, and making visible underrepresented decisions. Goralski's conceptual approaches are becoming experienced across the media. Since 2016, Goralski has been working together with Adam Erdmann under the name "die blue distance" as an artist:in-house duo at the intersection of visual art, artistic research and performative practices. Goralski and Erdmann have exhibited and collaborated nationally and internationally: among them at Het Hem Amsterdam (NL), the Kunsthalle Osnabrück (DE), Cities of Days Los Angeles (US), the un/titled Galerie Tbilisi (GE), the dgtl fmnsm collective (DE), the stone collective (DE) and the 5020 Galerie Salzburg (AT).

During the residency in Rotterdam, Franzi Goralski examines fragrances in shared rooms. How do they shape these environments and how can they be documented and archived? What artistic approaches are appropriate? On this speculative path, Franzi Goralski wants to, for example, collect fragrances that are associated with communal environments, q***r spaces and collective practices.

Last days to apply for the Work Periods 2025-2026 at our projectspace!

Deadline: 1 July 2025

There are three time slots available:
1 December 2025 – 30 January 2026 (2 months)
1 June 2026 – 31 July 2026 (2 months)
1 December 2026 – 31 January 2027 (2 months)

Het Wilde Weten is an independent, self-organized artist initiative in Rotterdam providing artist studios, a public platform for contemporary art, culture, discussion and debate, and an Artist in Residency program. These activities take place at the projectspace and are initiated by artists based at Het Wilde Weten, artists in residence or guest organizations.
Twice a year, as part of the program of Het Wilde Weten, the projectspace is available for work periods for individual artists. During these work periods, artists can develop a project or new work, concluding with a public presentation. Since a work period at the project space doesn’t offer accommodation, Het Wilde Weten invites artists based in Rotterdam, or region Rotterdam, to apply. For an accommodated work period, please stay tuned for our residency open call.
The projectspace is 6.4 x 11m, approximately 77 m2, ceiling height 3.90m. A kitchen, with an extra fridge, is located next to the space.
The costs of a work period (work only) at the projectspace of Het Wilde Weten are €550,00 per month. Unfortunately Het Wilde Weten does not offer funding for the residency
program. However we can provide a letter of invitation upon request to assist with funding applications with third parties.

How to apply:
Mail [email protected] with a short motivation, artist statement and CV.
Add a brief description of your plans and your preferred period(s) working in the projectspace.

Besides the program of Het Wilde Weten, the projectspace is also available for rent for individual artists or non-commercial organizations. More info and prices: hetwildeweten.nl/projectspace/
In case of rentals, publicly accessible exhibitions/events are only possible in consultation with Het Wilde Weten.

Politics of Idiocracy

Exhibition by Pendar Nabipour

May 30 - June 15

Opening:
May 30
15:00 – 23:00

Het Wilde Weten
Robert Fruinstraat 35
3021 XB Rotterdam

What happens when political power meets digital culture? When history is recorded not in textbooks but in memes? Politics of Idiocracy, the latest project by Pendar Nabipour (visual artist, educator, and independent curator), transforms iconic political bloopers into paintings, questioning how absurdity, media, and collective memory shape today’s leadership. For the finishing touch, Pendar will then add a personal element from his life into each painting.
Hosted at Het Wilde Weten's project space, this exhibition explores art, journalism, and satire. Politics of Idiocracy invites audiences to contemplate on the fragility of those in power, human vulnerabilities, the viral nature of political moments, and the role of humor in public discourse.
