“On these mental journeys I move from real life and create an alternative reality. From that abstract level I try to get a grip on the truth and envision a future that is softer, smoother and more peaceful than the present. I am sensing a perfect world."

“The power of imagination enables us to interpret life and uncover new modes of perception and thought. I explore what it means to be part of the greater whole and imagine being able to go straight through time, place and matter."

"In Mirage, I seek to grasp the ungraspable. I do so by physically transforming images of the sky, incorporating references to architectural elements such as windows and walls. 'Wall' is a spatial installation that explores how walls both protect and confine us. We build physical and mental barriers to create order out of chaos—but what if these walls don’t provide the sense of security we expect?"

At Quartair I will show a new presence of "wall".

“In my work, I explore the urge to shape and control the world around us. Starting from photographs of fleeting things — water, skies, earth —I translate these images onto other materials, turning them into tangible objects with texture and form. What begins as a photo becomes a model of our desire to make, to structure — and to let go.”

"The beauty of subjects lies very often in the imperfections, the divergences that arises through aging processes, mistakes and damages. Something can only embody perfection if it also embodies imperfection."

"My process is playful and experimental. I usually start with photography, but only through editing with oil paint, chalk, tracing paper, mirrors, cyanotype or slides, do I add a reality that would otherwise not be visible, but can now be felt. Silhouettes often return in my work. They show how something can be present and absent at the same time."

“My work begins where knowledge ends. Trying to measure and explain everything leaves little room for the magic of 'it could be…'
I believe that a shared, unambiguous reality does not exist. But it is precisely that realization that offers space to play, to search, to recreate. When I inherited thousands of slides from a man I did not know, with landscapes of places that have since disappeared, I felt: I have been there. My imagination became my reality."

*Godelieve Krekelberg*
This work transforms an essential element of the wooded surroundings of her home into an exhibition space in a metropolitan area. A tree trunk has been removed from its context to explore how it manifests itself outside its natural, everyday environment. The sturdy trunk is depicted life-size, a futile attempt to preserve its appearance forever. Six months later, the same trunk still lies in the same forest. We could easily point it out if time and nature hadn't taken their course. Everything has remained in its place, everything is as before, and yet the first thing we see is metamorphosis. What remains is the image of that sturdy trunk, forever the same.

*Godelieve Krekelberg*
With her photographs, Godelieve Krekelberg explores a reality that fills her with wonder. She starts from a series of observations, which she captures in photographs. Through these images — which she dissects and turns inside out — she steps away from a fixed and confined way of seeing. In doing so, she comes closer to what she has seen and what evokes her sense of wonder. This process gives rise to an image she could not have conceived beforehand, yet in which a moment of meaning may be contained. Her working method resembles an inductive research approach, were it not that chance and intuition are also given free rein.

"My recent work centres around increased aggravation concerning “no condition permanent”. While experimenting with etching techniques and turning prints into paper statues, stories emerge around disruption, withdrawal and flight."

*Els Kocken*
"The concept of “No condition permanent” and the power of change in discovering and experiencing new perspectives are a common thread in my thinking and creations. It was a constant throughout my 27 years of work in development and emergency aid programs. On the one hand, the power of change often brings about unpredictable renewal and growth. On the other hand, in these times when facts and truths seem to have only brief validity, continuous change also evokes withdrawal, irritation, and defensiveness."
