Dick Ronteltap, Allround Artist
Almost a year ago, Nov. 2020, Dick Ronteltap (independent artist, musician, music-therapist, interactive-media DJ,) chose Art as his 'Emergency-flow' during the Covid regulations. He had enormous levels of creativity flowing within him which he couldn’t express in music anymore due to the strict restrictions at that time.
"Art is fluent; painting posseses aspects of making music, such as flow and emotional expression. A wild colourful wipe is comparable to a high-pitched saxophone burst/ scream." Creating new life with his self-taught painting techniques, Ronteltap collects all kinds of materials (street canvas) on the streets of Rotterdam, adding different sorts of mediums into the paint like little rusty screws, chicken-feathers, ceramic powder and so on.
"A reflection of my emotion, my state of mind and desire to be free; it all can be found in many of my underlayers." His mission is to connect the viewer with his point of view, his wander through time, his fascination to elevate and revive old abandoned street treasures.
The artwork of Ronteltap reveals a fresh mix of used material and personality which can make you start thinking about human behaviour, trash and possession, but in an easy and playful way.
"A new canvas tells no story" in the eyes of Ronteltap. Re-using material is rewriting time, giving driftwood or Teflon pans a new function. Old life with marks of the past; in spots, damage, decay, deterioration, impurities and imperfection. It all shines through... "Isn't that human?"
His art process, mainly portraits, always start with a conversation and exploration, a meeting to reveal the story behind a person's face and character.
