To me, a mailbag is already a dreamcatcher.
It is an object that once carried messages.
Words, distance, waiting, longing.
Something entrusted to travel between people.
From that idea, this kinetic sculpture emerged.
The outer layer is the mailbag itself.
The inner structure is built from iron wire and aluminum foil; materials I found on the island, mimicking the rustling of leaves and the glimmer of sunlight.
The leaves move with the wind.
You hear a subtle metallic rustle.
The sun casts shadows that constantly shift.
Those shadows are painted onto the mailbag with bleach.
Not by adding pigment, but by removing color.
The way sunlight slowly does.
For me, the work is about capturing a fleeting moment in the materials of that very moment.
What was present became form.
What moved was held, yet remains in motion.
Big thanks to and for letting me step out of my comfort zone and making me research new ways of expressing my art. And for making this research at my residency possible. I love every second of it! And I miss the cats. 🤍
