A Ukrainian musical folk group PTAHA was created in Limburg in 2022 years. The Ukrainian PTAHA Choir welcomes you. Our choir was founded in Rоеrmond in 2023.

We are ambassadors of creative diplomacy for cultural exchange between the Netherlands and Ukraine. The choir consists of Ukrainian women who came to the Netherlands after the war in Ukraine. The team has several families, where both mom and daughter sing together, making our choir especially charming. The choir repertoire is mainly Ukrainian folklore songs. We are inspired by the centuries-old cu

lture and history of the Ukrainian people. Through the songs, we broadcast the real soul of the Ukrainian nation to the Dutch. Our mission is to be cultural ambassadors of the Ukrainian song in the Netherlands. In 2.5 years, we participated in more than 35 concerts and cultural events. Among our partners are the Embassy of Ukraine in the Netherlands, several municipalities of Limburg, royal choirs and orchestras, theaters, ECI Cultuurfabric, Gluren Bij de Buren, Ukrainian House Maastricht, and other cultural institutions. We are sincerely supported by the Dutch. Choir conductor - Jos Eggen. Angeligue Van Dijk, Our Music Bechelaider. At the beginning of the chorus, our mentor was Peter Driesen. Hans Maessen and Chris Vanderheyden have given us the opportunity to rehearse our Ukrainian choir in the ancient Castle de Thooren in Roemond, which gives us a unique atmosphere of preparation for concerts. At our concerts, we always thank the Dutch society and the government for their support of Ukrainians in these difficult times for us. We sincerely believe that the victory of Ukraine is approaching. Having created the Ukrainian choir in the Netherlands, we represent the cultural front of Ukraine in Europe. We are proud of the fact that through a cultural mission, we attach the Netherlands to the Ukrainian context. It is worth noting that our choir comprises women from various regions of Ukraine. We united in a big singing family to get acquainted with the variety of Ukrainian folklore. We do it through songs, through unique musical instruments (bandura), and through traditional, ancient Ukrainian clothes. The Ukrainian PTAHA Choir invites you to cooperate. We are ready for new collaborations. We are happy to participate in concerts, festivals, and cultural events. We will be happy to get acquainted. Ukrainian Statehood Day reminds us that Ukraine's history did not begin in 1991. Our statehood tradition stretches back more than a thousand years to medieval Rus and has been carried forward by generations who defended our freedom and right to determine our own future.

🧩 Ukraine's identity has been shaped over centuries by artists and inventors, cities and villages, traditions and innovations, while every region contributed a unique piece to the story of Ukraine. This is the idea behind Puzzle of Unity – a project that explores Ukraine through the diversity of its history and culture.

Originally created as an interactive installation, it takes the form of a map made up of 20 puzzle pieces. Each represents Ukraine's cultural or historical symbol – from remarkable people and architectural landmarks to artistic traditions, inventions and symbols that have shaped our country. Every story is unique, but together they reveal both the diversity and unity of Ukraine.
Over the coming weeks, we'll explore each piece of the puzzle and the story behind it. Follow and discover the people, places, artworks and inventions that have shaped Ukraine over the centuries.

The artwork was created by Sestry Feldman for the interactive installation Puzzle of Unity, developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and NGO Port of Culture with the support of the European External Action Service (EEAS).

✨ Meet Diana Denhizova — a member of the PTAHA Ukrainian song group 🇺🇦

🌟 Her name comes from Ancient Rome and means “divine.” It is connected with the goddess Diana and symbolizes strength, independence, and a connection with nature.

✍️ Diana is from Enerhodar, a city in the Zaporizhzhia region of Ukraine, located on the banks of the Dnipro River and known for the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Since 2022, her hometown has been under temporary occupation, but it remains forever close to her heart.

🌟 She has been living in the Netherlands for almost four years, studying and building her future step by step. After finishing school, Diana hopes to work in the social sector and support people who need help.

🎶 She joined “Ptaha” through her friend Eva. What started as a friendship slowly became a connection between families. In the choir, Diana discovered not only Ukrainian music, but also a warm community and a feeling of home far away from Ukraine.

🇺🇦 For her, Ukrainian songs are much more than music. They carry pain, resilience, freedom, and strength — feelings that are often impossible to express in words.

✍️ Her favorite song from the choir’s repertoire is “Hey, Sokoly!” It tells a story of leaving home, longing for loved ones, and the search for freedom. For Diana, it also reflects the reality many Ukrainians experience today.

🌟 Through “Ptaha’s” performances, Diana wants to share Ukrainian culture, history, and the true spirit of Ukrainian people with Dutch audiences.

✍️ And there is one thing she admits with a smile: it is almost impossible for her not to laugh during vocal warm-ups with their conductor Jos 😄 His unique exercises always bring joy and laughter to rehearsals.

🎶 Meet Оксана Графова — a voice of Ukraine in the Netherlands

🎹 Oksana, whom friends call Ksukha and colleagues know as Oksi, comes from the beautiful village of Kyslytsia in the Odesa region of Ukraine. Her roots are deeply connected with the warmth of her homeland, its traditions, and its songs.

🌟 For almost four years, Oksana has been building her life in Heerlen, the Netherlands. During this time, she has not been afraid of change — she explored different paths, working as a chef, a clothing store assistant, and a beauty advisor. Today, she works as a makeup artist in Maastricht, achieving a goal that was very important to her.

🌟 Her greatest inspiration and motivation is her daughter Veronika, who encourages her to grow, dream, and embrace new opportunities.

✍️ Oksana has been a member of the choir for almost a year, and for her, it is much more than singing. It is a community of people who support each other, a place where she feels connected, inspired, and happy. The choir has become a special part of her life — a space where Ukrainian culture, friendship, and music come together.

✍️ For Oksana, Ukrainian songs are a way to feel her identity, preserve the connection with her roots, and share the beauty of Ukrainian language and culture with others.

🌟 One of her favourite songs from the repertoire is “Chom Ty Ne Pryishov” (“Why Didn’t You Come?”). She remembers this melody from her childhood, from her grandmother’s voice. Every time she sings it with the choir, she feels a special warmth and a strong emotional connection with her past.

🎶 Through their performances for Dutch audiences, Oksana and the choir share not only music but also a piece of Ukraine’s story. Their songs carry emotions, memories, and a reminder of what Ukrainians are experiencing today. For Oksana, being part of the choir means being part of something meaningful and bigger than herself.

🌟 If her life were a song, Oksana believes it would be “Dumy Moi, Dumy Moi” (“My Thoughts, My Thoughts”) — a song filled with depth, feelings, and love for her roots.

And the song that always brings a smile to her face is “Ishlo Divcha Luchkamy” (“A Girl Was Walking Through the Meadows”) — a favourite among the choir members, full of joy and energy. 🎶

Op zaterdag 5 september trappen we gezamenlijk het nieuwe seizoen af tijdens onze Open Dag! 💛

De hele ECI staat die dag in het teken van cursus, film, theater en alles wat er dit seizoen te ontdekken valt. Loop tussen 13.00 en 16.00 uur binnen bij onze cursuslokalen. Benieuwd wat er dit filmseizoen op het doek verschijnt? Neem plaats in een van onze filmzalen en bekijk een doorlopende selectie trailers. Tussendoor kun je ook nog komen kijken naar de gratis kindervoorstelling Stamppot en Papeda!

En 's avonds? Dan sluiten we af met de gratis Theaterproeverij waar we proeven van het nieuwe theaterseizoen en ons laten verrassen door korte voorstellingen van verschillende theatermakers.

🎶Today’s story is about our musical director MaryNL ❤️

Marina is a person who combines the strength of a leader, a creative spirit, and a deep love for Ukrainian culture. Her name means “of the sea”, and perhaps this reflects her ability to keep moving forward, even when life brings unexpected waves of change.

Her hometown is Enerhodar, a city of light in the Zaporizhzhia region, located on the shores of the Kakhovka Reservoir. It remains a place that lives forever in her heart — filled with memories, family traditions, and moments that have become even more precious with time.

Before moving to the Netherlands, Marina spent 14 years building her career in the banking sector, managing bank branches in Ukraine. Here, she began a new professional chapter and recently moved into a management role at Tom Tailor. But her greatest passion has always been music.

Through music, Marina found not only a choir, but a true community. Her daughter Diana met Eva at school, and later Eva’s mother, Hanna, invited them to sing together. This is how Marina became connected with “PTAHA” — a place that grew into something much bigger than just a choir.

Today, Marina is the artistic director of “PTAHA”. For her, this is a way to create a space where Ukrainian songs continue to live far from home, unite people, and share the beauty of Ukrainian culture with the world.

“Ukrainian song is a genetic code, a living connection with home, and an incredible source of strength. It heals when it hurts and gives wings when life becomes difficult.”

Among the songs in the choir’s repertoire, “Svitla Radist” (“Bright Joy”) holds a special place in Marina’s heart. It brings her back to memories of pre-war times, when four generations of her family gathered around one table, laughed, shared stories, and sang together. Today, she finds a piece of that feeling of home in “PTAHA”.

Through their singing, Marina wants to show Dutch audiences that Ukraine is not only about the pain and war they see in the news. Ukraine is a country of beauty, traditions, resilience, and a culture that lives in every voice.

If Marina’s life were a song, it would be a powerful instrumental and vocal symphony: with strong chords of transformation, deep melodies of longing for home, and a bright final theme of hope, rebirth, and the healing power of art.

🎵 The melody of her life could be “Oi u Luzi Chervona Kalyna” — a song that carries both the memory of our roots and the strength to move forward.

Marina is not just a voice that carries melodies.
She is a voice that carries home.

🎶 Meet Iryna, or simply Iris

🌟 Iryna Irina Artemchuk was born in the Zhytomyr region, in the beautiful Polissia area, surrounded by wide fields, forests, flowers, and birdsong. Since childhood, her parents have called her Irynka, while her friends know her as Iris. The nickname, inspired by the name of a candy, has stayed with her throughout her life.

✍️ By profession, Iryna is an accountant, but she currently works in a restaurant in the Netherlands. She enjoys meeting people from different countries and especially appreciates interactions with the Dutch, always greeting them with warmth, sincerity, and a genuine smile.

🎶 Iryna joined the choir after being invited by the women who founded Pakhucha. At first, she hesitated because she did not consider herself a professional singer. However, after attending her first rehearsal, she immediately felt that she had found something truly familiar and close to her heart. Today, the choir has become her second family.

🇺🇦 For Iryna, Ukrainian song is much more than music. It is a story about emotions, life, and love. Her favorite song from the choir’s repertoire is “Teche Voda” (“The Water Flows”) because whenever she feels sad or overwhelmed, singing it brings her peace, strength, and the desire to keep moving forward.

🎶 Through her singing, Iryna hopes to share a piece of her soul with the Dutch people, as well as the beauty of Ukrainian culture, the warmth of her homeland, and the story of Ukraine itself. She believes that every Ukrainian song tells a story about life, traditions, and the spiritual values of her country. 💙

Yesterday, magic happened in the conservatoire studio. We edited the track, added acoustic effects, listened to it back and enjoyed our wonderful ‘SONCE NYZENKO’. The second stage is complete. We’re now waiting for the final file. Thanks to Louis, Jos and Hanna for this wonderful day in the studio!
