PRESS RELEASE -
“For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro’ narrow chinks of his cavern.” — William Blake, The Marriage of Heaven and Hell (1790)

In the latest sculptures nature is taking over,
don’t know where this is going 🙃

I always seem to combine fragments from different worlds. In the Semi Colon series it’s portraits and various optical phenomena.
In a desire to balance the current unrest in the individual experience with its insignificance compared to the world that simply keeps turning.

Happy to participate in this great group! ❤️

“For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro’ narrow chinks of his cavern.”
— William Blake, The Marriage of Heaven and Hell (1790)
Like Blake, the artists critique the limited worldview shaped by social conventions, technological narrowing, and cultural codes. Through fashion, the body, color, and performativity, they use imagination as a social force—not as an escape, but as a means of transformation and connection.

“For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro’ narrow chinks of his cavern.”
— William Blake, The Marriage of Heaven and Hell (1790)

In a time when algorithms shape our behavior, polarization narrows our view, and social systems condition our perception, it seems humanity has once again ‘shut itself in’—just as William Blake foresaw in the 18th century.

Cracks in the Cave is curated by Anya Janssen and Majke Hüsstege. They brought together a wonderful, colourful collection of artists. 💥💥

Part II: Resonances from the Other One

In a world that is more digitally connected than ever, many of us feel strangely more disconnected — as if the world is slipping through our fingers. Our social, political and creative environments are experiencing an acceleration that often seems to be beyond our control. That reality fosters a growing sense of disorientation. And yet, a deep human longing persists: for participation, for collaboration, for the exchange of ideas, for meaningful contact through words, through shared presence.
The two-part exhibition seeks to reflect this tension and delve into the complex interplay between disoriented confusion and yearning for connection. The overarching theme is resonance, understood both as a metaphor for interpersonal connection and as a response to one’s environment. As social and relational beings, we are looking for a certain resonance, a connectedness with the world whether it be human, natural or artificial. This idea can also be grasped through Donna Haraway’s concept of Worlding by which she describes ‘a process of the world, the body and their material actants which are equally conceived as materially amorphous, unfinished and always on the move’.

OF BEAUTY AND DOUBT

A sensitive and dedicated observer of behaviour and representation, Silvia B. denotes the schism between the constraints imposed by a cultivated reality and the deeper intuitive and instinctive layers that lie within us.

The oeuvre of Silvia B is an appeal to challenge these constraints and open the door to our innermost cravings and aspirations, revealing our secret and most imaginative self.

Silvia B.’s serene settings are reminiscent of the mirror in the fairytale of Snow White. Like a perfectly honed machine, the mirror boldly refracts the prejudices and bigotry lurking on the surface, revealing the coordinates of where true beauty is hiding.
